Question about 2009 Hyundai Sonata

1 Answer

Using the select shift in my 2009 sonata

Please explain exactly how the select shift works when you manually up shift and down shift. My brother has a Sonata limited, and he maintains the rpm's should go down when in the + side at say 60 miles per hour to increase gasmieage. I say it is only used to down shift from ther if you choose to use the shifter manually.
Could youpossibly clear this up for both of us....
Thank you

The purpose of shift tronic is to give the driver the option of driving like a manual where you command the shift, or auto for easy driving (little effort). It is not specifically used just to down shift or upshift. When you are in 5th gear, thats it, it will do in it normal mode or sport shift.

I have a 2009 GMC Acadia. What should the ERS mode be in on a normal basis?

Driver Shift Control (DSC) or Electronic Range Selection (ERS): This position (M-Manual / L-Low) allows the driver to utilize the DSC/ERS system. When the shift selector lever is moved to this position, the driver may select upshifts or downshifts by using the paddle switches located on the steering wheel/shifter. An upshift is requested by pushing either + button. Refer to the vehicle owner's manual for more specific DSC/ERS information.
Driver Shift Control (DSC)/Electronic Range Selection (ERS)
Refer to the owner's manual for specific instructions on DSC. The TCM will override shift commands when maximum engine speed is achieved and will protect from any downshift which may cause excessive engine RPMs.

Electronic Range Select (ERS) Mode
ERS mode allows you to choose the top-gear limit of the transmission and the vehicle's speed while driving down hill or towing a trailer. The vehicle has an electronic shift position indicator within the instrument panel cluster. When using the ERS Mode a number will display next to the L, indicating the current gear that has been selected.
To use this feature:
Move the shift lever to L (Low).
Press the plus/minus button located on the shift lever, to increase or decrease the gear range available.
When you shift from D (Drive) to L (Low), the transmission will shift to a pre-determined lower gear range. The highest gear available for this pre-determined range is displayed next to the L in the DIC. See Driver Information Center (DIC) and DIC Operation and Displays for more information. The number displayed in the DIC is the highest gear that the transmission will be allowed to operate in. This means that all gears below that number are available. For example, when 4 (Fourth) is shown next to the L, 1 (First) through 4 (Fourth) gears are automatically shifted by the vehicle. the transmission will not shift into 5 (Fifth) until the + (Plus) button is used or you shift back into D (Drive).
While in L (Low), the transmission will prevent shifting to a lower gear range if the engine speed is too high. You have a brief period of time to slow the vehicle. If vehicle speed is not reduced within the time allowed, the lower gear range shift will not be completed. You must further slow the vehicle, then press the - (Minus) button to the desired lower gear range.
Automatic Engine Grade braking is not available when the ERS is active. It is available in D (Drive) for both normal and Tow/Haul mode. While using the ERS, cruise control and the tow/haul mode can be used. See Tow/Haul Mode for more information.

2004 Hyundai Sonata automatic transmission downshifting while at a maintained speed.

I have one that does exactly this. I have confirmed no codes in trans or engine; I have watched the data on the scan tool and it appears that the PCM is choosing to shift without a change in throttle or speed to cause it. I am looking into a new PCM - ouch!

Dealership claims engine in 2009 car is not engine in car they sold me. 2009 sonata bought used 6 months ago. How do I prove it is same engine in car I purchased.

When they sold you the car did the paperwork list the engine number ?
I would ask them to prove or explain why they think the engine is not the same, were there any photographs of the engine taken by them if so are they different ? Whos to say the engine was not changed before they sold you the car. Sorry not really a answer just what I might do next if I were in your situation.
good luck

How do i adjust auto trans 09 sonata 4cyl gl to shift later -shifts too soon

NO REPHLASHES in the system... sorry... Your vehicle has a 'learning computer' .. whomever is driving the vehicle, the computer accumulates data for that/those drivers and 'averages' out habits.... otherwise, Take/Tow your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership and pay the diagnostic fee... they will tell you exactly what the problem is and the cost of parts/labor to fix it... at least this way you'll know what the problem is and what's required to fix it.

Cruise control problem

This is normal for the 2.4 lit 4 cylinder engine. I assume this is the size engine you have in your Sonata. If it isn't, perhaps you should take it in to the Hyundai Service Center and ask them to verify whether or not it's a problem that needs to be fixed under warranty, or whether it's normal.
