Question about 2000 Toyota Camry

Trouble replacing ignition switch.

Hello, I am having difficulty removing my ignition switch from my wife's 2000 Camry. I know you have to move key from "lock" position to "ACC" position where I can then push release pin found on bottom of cylinder. My problem is that key will not move to "ACC" position. What can I do?

Normally we would replace the lock cylinder and housing at the dealer.....but if it were my car I'd uses a punch and hammer to slam that pin in and remove the cylinder. It's worth a try first before having to replace the entire housing.

Sometimes after I put my 2000 Buick Regal LS in Park and turn off the engine the ignition switch not the key gets stuck in the on and acc position. What causes this to happen?

Replace ignition switch (the tumbler portion) seems like its hanging up, and you shouldn't be able to remove the keys unless the switch is off.The park safety switch possibly. This switch tells the vehicle its in Park. Hope this helps.

Do you know why my key wouldnt turn my switch my switch was locked in my 2000 toyota camry solaro

Was your steering column turned, or possibly wedged against a curb or other obstacle? At times when that column is locked or wedged, you can't turn the ignition key. Just forcefully turn your steering wheel one way or the other & hold it there, the ignition assembly should unlock, and you should be able to turn the key.

If the key will not turn the lock cylinder and you have removed the switch, you probably need a new cylinder.

Need to remove and replace ignition switch 2000 ford windstar

Hello, The Ignition switch is not too bad to remove. You will need to disconnect and reconnect the battery several times while changing the switch. The plastic cover on the steering column usually has 4 screws that you access from the bottom of the cover.

There is a core in the switch that is what the key turns to make the switch work. You want to keep this core as it has the grooves that match the key. To remove this core you have a spring loaded pin that you access from below and press(Using a drillbit or nail). You insert your key and just pull the core out when the core is turned to either the ACC position or the RUN position.

As I stated earlier, one battery cable has to be removed. Since there are safety Interlocks you need to have power when you turn the key to either position. You promptly disconnect the battery cable after the key is turned to RUN or ACC. If you have any difficulty in getting the column cover loose, there is sometimes a large flange on the key core. This will all be out of the way once the core comes loose.

Now you are staring at the bare Ignition switch. There is a wiring bundle that you unhook and pull away. The Ignition switch is sometimes adjustable. Scratch marks on the housing where the Ignition switch is attached and then remove the switch. Place the new switch in the same position.
Then reverse all of the procedures to finish.

Now that I have answered the exact question you asked for, I can not help but wonder if you want to replace the switch to solve a starting problem. There is an Interlock switch which requires the gearshift to be in Park or the starter will not work when you turn the key to start your van. This switch could be bad or out of adjustment. Ask at Autozone, Advance or Oreilys about this switch before you go to all the needless work replacing a good Ignition switch.

I hope my solution is very helpful to you.

I am seeking location of ignition switch wiring on 2000 olds intrigue.  I have under dash removed.

Disconnect Car Battery
I replaced the ignition switch in my wifes 2000 intrigue. (ignition mounted in front dash). I had to take off the knee bump trim and the trim around the instrument housing and remove the instrument cluster. Leave it connected and just lay it on the dash. You also need to remove the radio to get to one of the screws that hold the ignition switch module. Once you get that loose you can pull it out so you can disconnect the wires going to it.
If you need to replace the ignition module insert the key and turn to accessories, there is a small metal button to push in, then your key and the lock part will fall out to install into your knew ignition module. At that time you can also remove the cruise control cable.
I am not a mechanic and the whole process only took me an hour or so.
I replaced my ignition module to fix the heater and AC operation. It also fixed the cruise control that hadn't worked for a year.

Ignition Switch grey_line.gif Inspect | Test | Replace The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.
NOTE On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible.
On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash.
