Question about 2003 Kia Optima
I am trying to install a new timing belt on a 2004 KIA Optima. I have run into a problem with the tensioner. It doesn't seem to move enough to get the belt on. I tried removing the tensioner assembly, but no matter what I do it is always just about there, but not quite. Also I understand the oil pump has to be timed. Where should the mark be? Please help, I have worn my fingers to the nub trying to get this belt installed. I am probably missing something i am sure.
I have never heard of a "timed oil pump" but there can be a first. Also the timing belt is supposed to be tight. Alot of cars are "interferance" motors. Which means if the timing belt goes all the rods stop where they are and the pistons continue there rotation resulting in smashed rods and valves. It should be very tight to get on, try wrenching on the tensioner when you put on the belt. Even get another person to do one while you do the other. Good luck.
