Question about Mazda 626

Can not set Ignition timing on 1995 MAZDA 626 2.5 V6 ES

My MAZDA started running rough & had no pick-up-and -go.They spent 6 hours diagnostic's on the car.And when I say (THEY) I mean the mechanic's at the garage I work at.They started leaning towards the distributor,so I bought one and installed it,no change.Wanted to set the(BASE)timing just to make sure.So I inserted a jumper wire between the GND & TEN terminals in the data link connector as they suggest in HAYNES repair manual.I hooked up my timing light properly ,and when I adjusted the distributor, there was no change in the timing(THE MARK NEVER MOVED)....DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON WHAT I MIGHT BE DOING WRONG,WHERE I SHOULD START NEXT OR WHAT MIGHT BE THE REASON THE TIMING WONT ADJUST...PLEASE HELP...AND THANKS FOR CARING...PEACE...

SOURCE: engine starts, reaches high rpm, then slowly returns

Vacuum leaks. Check all hoses and intake bolts. Leaking EGR or plugged PCV valve. Air filter plugged. Leaking head gasket. Worn timing chain. Camshaft lobes worn. Valves burned or leaking. Fuel idle control system or sensor. Good luck!

My mazda 626 1997 2.5 v6 stalls out every time i take out oil dip stick

I discovered that removing the dip stick also breaks the vacuum and causes the engine to run really rough. I'm not surprised to hear you get stalls. don't worry too much, just check your oil when the engine is off.!

Under steady acceleration, engine light goes on

Being a 95 it dosent have OBD2 so it may not store a trouble code in the computer.
From the symptoms it sounds like either, Air flow sensor, O2 sensor
The O2 will not usually cause stalling under acceleration.

Hello if you car doesnt want to stat all the time, then the next time it dosent hold up on the ignition switch and turn the key. If it does then you have a switch problem. This is common in the mazda 626

My mazda run high and low when starting

This is simple repair if cleaning it doesnt work replace it but if your unsure and want to get a for sure diagnostic you must go to a shop that can diagnose your problem checkers auto parts usually will run OBDII diagnostic free but not sure about OBDI also you can pick up your own diagnostic scanner at local autoparts store or follow troubleshooting guide in your repair manual.

Cylinder order

The firing order on all four cylinder engines is and number one cylinder is at the opposite end of the engine to the gearbox, at the end with the belts and pulleys.
