SOURCE: 89 bronco II stars then dies

if the fuel pump cutoff was tripped it would not start at all, I know this for sure, I am a Ford dealer tech and I specialize in no starts and check eng lights. If the ignition switch is bad the 2 halves of the switch will be starting to come apart, it is very common, u should be able to either see it or feel it with your hand.

SOURCE: 89 suburban back fires through the throttle body.

Check the timing chain..Take the belt of and turn the crank by hand and see how much slop there is when you turn it back and forth..If theres not much then there could be a cam problem. But most of the time its the timing chain..Hope this helps you and have a great night....

1989 ford bronco 2 ignition problems maybe

It could have a weak or failing ignition coil. The other thing I can think to look for would be an exhaust restriction.. (clogged catalytic converter)

What about the fuel filter?? was it replaced?

The engine sputters and dies when it heats up. Is this Vapor lock? On cold start it works great and idles just fine but as it heats, the engine starts choking and soon dies out. If this is vapor lock, how...

sounds like the reason it starts and idles fine at start up is your choke is functioning... as your vehicle warms up.. the choke starts to kick off... Inspect your throttle body and idle control motor.

Check the battery cables for corrosion near the battery terminal end. Sometimes it builds up under the rubber insulation. I would check the ground wire that runs from the battery to the engine block.

I have a 89 bronco 2 with a 2.9 engine. I have

Try replacing the Throttle Positioning Sensor
Have the codes checked
You may need to clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor
this is best done by a professional as it contains some very sensitive wires and they are easily broken
The MAF is very expensive to replace

I need to find the idle air control valve on a 89 full size bronco and how to replace it

in 89 they put it in 2 different locations, look on the back or side of the throttle body just under where the air filter snorkle attaches or directly behind the air filter in the snorkle itself on the engine side, many times this can be removed by removing the three screws and then cleaned, if you are having a fast idle problem this is not your problem, if it starts then dies, you're on the right track. after replacing it you will probably have to drive it for about 1/2 a mile to relearn the IAC motor by driving with both feet to keep engine from stalling
