Question about 2008 Toyota Sienna

1 Answer

I have a toyota sienna 2008 minivan. The rear door got a backpack strap stuck on the latch, and it won't open. Is there any way to release the lock - it seems to have a power lock. Thanks, Kathy

Have some one hold the handle openfrom outside and give it a good kick from inside.make sure you start with a weak on first and increase the intensitity little by little without breaking the cover or hurting the person outside

2001 Toyota Sienna r.h. sliding door ''rear latch switch'' location

To start, the noun "''rear latch switch'' is incorrect. It's actually called "Slide Door Lock". It's located on page BO-20 of the Toyota Repair Manual for the 2001 Sienna. There are two door locks on one sliding door. One in the front and one in the rear. Obviously, you want the one in the rear. The location for the "Slide Door Lock" (which also contains an electric switch) is in the rear of the sliding door located mid way up door. You can see (sliding door opened from the back) it without dissembling the door. And, the lock is made up of plastic (dirty white in color).

Check for debris in the track near the rear of travel which will interfere with latching in the hold open position. Clear any such debris.

Hold the door handle in the open position while using a bent coat hanger on the door catch lever.Sometimes a flathead screwdriver works to pry the door catch as well. Good luck, keep me posted.

My prius rear door latch will not function

if you use a phillips screwdriver and put it in the gap where the latch on the hatch holds onto the anchor plate, while pulling down on the screw driver, press or pull the door release. this should release the latch.

Hope this is of some help.

1998 Sienna Back Door Latch

I had the same problem. I found solution on internet at following link:
http://www.findonefindall.com/toyota-sienna/siennareardoor.htm

I purchased the back door latch from Toyota dealer for $68 + taxes and replaced according to the instruction given at the above link. It takes less than 30 minutes to replace it. Thanks to the nice people for sharing the knowledge. The dealer quoted over $300 for the same.

Try pressing down on the trunk /hatch and at the same time turn the key to try and open it. It might take a lot of downware pressure to finally get it to come open.
