Question about 1997 Buick Skylark

1 Answer

I have a 1996 Buick Skylark limited 3.1 SFI v6 engine. The car just stopped on me at a light had to be pushed out of the street. Thought it was the battery but it's not because the lights comes on, also it's not the alternator in which I'm told. Now I needed to replace the intake gasket, and now I'm told that the bottom of my engine is locked and that I need a motor. How else can I diagnose the problem with my car. Any suggestions.

No there wasn't any loud noises, but the car did act like it didn't want to go when I hit the accelerator when I first got into the car, but then it just took off like nothing was happening with it. I really hope I don't have to get another engine. Any other suggestions.

Would not fixing the intake gasket cause this problem?

Hi you said that the bottom end locked up dose the car run?

if so dose it run rough and is there WHITE SMOKE from the tail pipe?

when the intake gasket leaks internal it turns the oil MILKY but it will not lock up the engine

remove the spark plugs and see if any are wet

if they are wet then coolant is getting in the cylinder

then you will need to remove the cylinder heads and replace the gaskets also send the heads out to a machine shop and get them checked for cracks and warpage

hope this helps let me know

You need to have the tranny service. If it is a longtime the fluid could be too old to do it's job.
