My interrior lights on my car will not turn off... it always senses that there is an open door when they are all closed...

My interrior lights on my grand am gt always stay on as if there is a door open...the reading lights on the review mirrior the main light and the floor lights... they eventually go off but not until after like 30 minutes go by or so instead of once i lock it I have same problem on my work truck, a 2004 F150 Crew Cab. Had all the wiring checked, no problem. I suspect a damaged relay / module, but otherwise its fine so I try to live with it :P

the door switch has a single wire to it ,when the door is closed the switch moves back and stops the wire touching earth to switch the light off , when door is opened the switch moves forward and allows the wire to contact metal earth of the switch hence closing the circuit to bring lights on , remove switch and clean with a solvent the switch must be bolted to the body to create earth when testing

My daughter wrecked her car and the battery drains because the door courtesy light is always on. The reason it stays on us because the door was smashed in a way that the door is always open. Surprisingly...

Find the door open switch and disconnect it, or take the bulb out of the courtesy light socket.
The door switch, out is on, pushed in is closed (light off), you can take some duct tape over the switch to keep it pushed in.

Interior light delay not working

That is normal operation, as long as the door is open the door ajar switch senses that and keeps the interior light(s) on.

Trunk ajar light is always on

There is a switch that is activated/deactivated by the opening/closing of the trunk deck, it works the same way the door jam switch works when you open/close one of the cabin doors. The switch in the trunk compartment is bad and you will need to replace it.

I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu. and recently, the interrior lights and Instrument/tail lights fuses keep blowing out. I replace them, and the next day or sometimes within hours they fuses will be blown again....

You are correct, now to find out what circuit is blowing the fuse.If the car was in a accident check that area first.Chances are its interrior or running lights.lets start with interrior lights, install new fuse turn on interrior lights on for 1/2 hour.if fuse blows remove interrior lamp lenses and look for one of the hot wires to be shorted out on the body.To check the tail lights turn off the interrior lights and turn on the running lights. If fuse blows start with any damaged areas, check the trunk area for damage to the wire harness,if you have a trailer hitch chcek the trailer harness for damage.theres no easy fix here, hope I have been some help. Thanks for using FixYa......Ray

The door alarm keeps going off until you reach 25 km and keeps going back on everytime you drop below 25km. then when you turn the key off the interrior lights come on and wont turn off.

The mechanism in the door also contains the electrical sensor which activates the interior light and the door bell when a door is open.

Chances are good that you will have to replace the door locking mechanism, BUT, sometimes the electrical switch in the mechanism gets dirty and sticks.

This can often be corrected by performing the following:
1. Thoroughly spray the door switches (on each door) with:

  • Cleaning spray - clear the sludge out of the mechanism - electronic contact cleaner, carb, brake, etc

  • Air, canned or even better, from a compressor

  • Spray lubricant - Dry lube
2. Open and close each door several times to work the lube into the mechanism
This is usually sufficient to clean the electrical & plunger mechanism inside the door switch.
If this doesn't work, you could remove the door panel and do the spray treatment from the inside also.

If this doesn't work, the switch may have to come out for repair or replacement.

Interier Light

It is the next ring in, on the same (left) signal lever with the headlights. Just turn it upward toward the full white circle. You can also shut off the interrior lights by turning all the way down to "off". Or dim your dash lights. This will circumvent the 8 minute delay when the door is opened. I can Email you the booklet if you need.
