Question about 1997 Ford Explorer AWD
Loud creaking noise from front end of 1997 ford explorer. Occurs over bumps on straight roads and while turning. Have tried spraying wd40 at every exposed pivot point I could find. No change.
I had the same problem. It would squeak kinda bad when I pull in my driveway. My cv boots were good. I found the ball joints were getting wore out, as well as the shocks were over 10 yrs old. I replaced the ball joints and shocks. I know my squeaks stopped, I personally believe it was the shocks that fixed my squeaking.

Sounds like it is your CV axles. Turn the wheel one direction, right or left, and check just behind the wheels to see if your CV boot is cracked or ripped (the boot is a black, rubber accordion looking thing). If it is cracked or ripped, I would say that is definitely the problem.
