Sandy, the factory hitch alrady has a plug. and a prewired assembly that fits up into the back of the Highlander. I just don't where to plugh it into.

Last year I installed a toyota factory purchased 2" towing hitch to my wife's highlander. Hitch works fine. At that time, I did not connect the hitch's lighting assemly. It came prewired to connect to the car. I pushed the wire into the car as instructed and left them. Now, I need to connect the prepared assembly but don't have the instructions. It should just plug into the back somewhere, but I don't know where.

Hi,
You will need to set up the lights to turn off automatically when the ignition is off. This method of hook up prevents you from accidentally leaving on the aftermarket lights and draining the car battery.
here are the steps:-

  1. Strip the ends of the positive and negative wires on the lighting, so you have about 1/2 inch of exposed copper wire.
  2. Attach the negative wire from the lighting to the negative terminal of the car battery.
  3. Open the fuse panel inside the car. Notice that there are two very small spots on each fuse where the plastic is peeled away and you can see the metal of the fuse.
  4. Begin methodically touching the wire to the tops of each fuse and checking to see if your device turns on. The car should not be turned on for this step.
  5. Identify a fuse that does not allow your device to come on with the car off. Hold the wire against it and start the car to verify that your device does come on when the car is started.
  6. Connect the lighting device to the fuse. Pull the fuse out and place the wire in the side of the fuse socket before the fuse, then put the fuse back in place.
Thanks!
Sandy

    Tips & Warnings

    • When
connecting a device, it must be placed before the fuse--not after--or
you will blow the fuse. If you blow the fuse, pull the fuse out and
move the wire to the other side of the fuse socket and replace with a
      new fuse.

    • You
may need to splice extra wire onto your device so you can reach the
fuse box inside the car with the positive wire while still connecting
the negative to the battery terminal.

    • Be
sure the car is in park with the parking brake set and the wires near
the battery are clear of any moving parts before starting.

    • Never
use fuses related to important vehicle functions like airbags, ABS or
other necessary functions. Try to find fuses for things like windshield
      wipers or dash lights.

    • Be cautious when working with vehicle electronics because you can be shocked or damage the electronics in your car.

    • Check
with your local police department to verify the legality of the lights
you are installing. Certain lighting locations, colors or types may be
      illegal in your area.

I need to hard wire a hopkins trailer brake controller on a 2004 nissan titan

I don\'t think it has wiring provided in the factory for the tow package either. Looking at the schematics, they appear to be different with no provision for connections. The aftermarket have a wide variety of tow packages available which are simple enough to install if you ability.

Threr is one which you have to drill a large hole in the rear bumper to fit the receiving end of the connector. This is designed so that a wide selection of adaptors can be plugged into it. The adaptors are designed to fit the fixture in the bumper and the other end is shaped to plug into what ever connector you are towing. You will find this knid of fixture on nearly any factory package.. (NO WIRES DANGLING UNDER THE VEHICLE.) additionally, when not in use, there is a spring loaded cover which closes over the fixture to keep contaminants from entering Although I am a Nissan Master techniton, I chose a long wheel base 1 ton long wheel base cab and chassis Toyota with a 3.0 V-6 which I opened the back of the cab and installed a sleeper. Then built a flatbed with removable sides. I use this to pull my Nissan 300Z race Car. I have one of these fixtures on my truck because I don\'t always use the same trailer and the connectors to the trailer for the lights and electric brakes are different. The kits come with a controler for the electric brakes which you can mount where ever you wish and the controller has adjustments to control sensitivity of the trailer brakes so you can adjust the trailer to stop with the truck about the same time instead of wearing out your brakes from the extra load. With my Toyota loades with an extra engine, transmission and diff. Air compressor. Generator. Tool box, pop up tent, oils and other fluids and other misc Items. Between the trailer, the truck and it\'s load it grosses out at 11,800 lbs. When we go to Texas world speed way, we take 45 south where where there are very few cops. We cruise at 80-85 mph in the truck without a problem If the trailer brakes don\'t work, it would take me a significant time to stop because my truck is rated for 9,500 lbs.I run the living piss out of it and it has given me no problems at all/Hmm How did I get on the subject of my Toyota flatbed? OH, it\'s because I use the trailer brake setup I described which has been flawless. There are places that specialize in selling truck accesories only. From camper top and wheels to a variety of tow packages.Check them out. Good luck..

Reese hitch install instructions

This should be done by a qualified tow bar installer who certifies that the tow bar was installed according to engineering specifications. To put it simply ,if you do it and there is an accident you will be held responsible for everything and your car insurance will be cancelled.. Incorrectly installed bars will cause body failure.

How do i install a type lll trailer hitch considering the plastic pan that is part of the rear bumper?

suggest you try looking at u-haul for a drop hitch that will solve your rear bumper issue.they also do installation world wide if needed and they are the top experts in the hitch industry.i recommend them all the time.i can't say enough about how great those guys are about hitch problem solving.they sell hitches all over the world as well as rent moving trucks.they can still sell you the hitch that you need without installing it themselves, but unless you're a pro. i suggest that you have it done professionally. your life is at risk greatly when towing with a type3 hitch. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

I think the tongue weight rating on the stock hitch is 600 lbs, so you are over that. You probably want to level out truck to handle better when towing, so the best way is to get air bag helper that raises the back end.

With 4 prong and 3 extra, that will give you what you need for 7 prong for towing RV. If your not too experienced in that area, a mechanic at any trailer place, or hitch installation place or who knows RV wiring, should be able to do it for you in about 1/2 hr. or less. Testing the wires from your truck for what they do as in right , left, stop, running/taillights, etc is about the hardest part, and the 7 prong usually comes with what terminal does what.48e2ffb.jpg

Does a 1994 buick centry come with a hitch and if not what is every thing that i need for a hitch

No it's doesn't come with a hitch. To put one on you'll need to know what capacity hitch you need, towing weight of what is to be towed. A wiring harness to connect to the vehicle's brake lights, taillights and turn signals. U-Haul sells and installs hitches.

Towing capacity

While a Grand Prix isn't really designed to tow,the capacity of the car would be 4 adults and luggage. In my estimation, that would equate to roughly 1000 pounds that the car can comfortably haul around. Now,you do have to realize that this is going to be ******* the transmission especially, and the engine secondly.Definitely install an auxiliary transmission cooler to help dissipate the heat from the trans fluid.A close look at the rear suspension and possibly any upgrades there will help out with the tongue weight that a trailer creates.Check and see how much the trailer actually weighs before proceeding.Unlike cars of 30 years ago, that were outfitted with V8,rear wheel drive, truck engines and transmissions, today's cars really aren't the ideal choice to tow with,as a front wheel drive transaxle is pretty light duty.Towing a lawnmower and small trailer,or a jet ski,no problem.A camper trailer would need to be really light, and the other issue might be brakes.Check your brakes really well on your car,as they will also be stopping the weight of whatever you're towing.Good luck.
