Question about 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

1 Answer

Rear window slipping down about 1 inch, but still on the track.

My '00 Oldsmobile Alero has serious window issues. SERIOUS! I replaced the toggle switches on the driver's side and rear passenger's side last year. For a bit all the windows worked well. In the past months the windows on both rear passenger windows have been slipping down (about an inch or so) and will come to a stop slightly open. However, I cannot utilize the toggle switches to raise the window to be again closed. Instead I have resorted to "taping" my windows closed. Today, I removed the panel and plastic moisture guard from the rear passenger seat door and have found that the window is locked firmly into place on the track. However, I am still unclear as to what the problem is exactly? Cable? Regulator? I just want the windows to CLOSE and they could stay closed for all I care at this time. I appreciate your help!

The Regulator will fix the problem. The tracks might also need a little adjustment.(loosen bolts move track then retighten) Try holding the window while you are rasing it you might be able to guide it up so that it will close a bit more.

Drivers window not working, glass seems to have slipped down about an inch and cannot move it. Does this sound like motor, regulator or just the plastic window clip hardware I have read about?

okay it has most likly fallen off the track, if you remove the door panel (read online if you have not done this before) and inside you will find a few bolts holding the tracks for the window. Remove one bolt from the bottom and reach in and put glass back into the track and replace the bolt. also the windows most commonly come out of the track because of friction from aging window rubber. This can be helped by adding a little lube to the rubber around the window... make sure first that the lube you use safe for the application. if you need more help on this let me know what the make and model of the car is.

2001 oldsmobile alero window off track,

first remove the door panel there are three screws that need to be removed first 2 under the inside door handle and 1 on the lower left hand side behind a reflector then pull off the panel it will be held on by push clips, once inside move the plastic weather bearrer to the side ,run the window half way down you should see 2 window holding brackets pull the window up so you can drop it in the brackets, first get some black window adhesive fill the brackets with adhesive put window in brackets and roll it up and leave it up for 24 hrs.If the brackets are broken you will have to replace the whole window motor assemly which you can get on line for 89.00 not the 250.00 at dealer and you can install it yourself its easy to do.

Fix front passenger window in a 2001 Alero

Sounds like it is Off Track. You will need to remove the Door Panel. There are Access holes in the Door so that you can get it Back on Track.
