no the key turn fine but it wont go past the run possition. the key wont turn at the final point to crank the car, last year my tumble broke, i had it fixed but when it broke i couldnt move the key at all, its not doing thay this time, 2 days ago i went to the store and i had this happen but after playing with it and jiggling the key and jusy playing with it it finally turned so i could start it then it was fine but now again it wont turn (the Key) past the run point and playing with it isnt working this time i had to get it towed home. a friend checked the starter its fine batterty fine (brand new) its something with the igmition, but as i said the tumbler was replaced a year ago!

its automatic, 2.2 Liter and as i said 1 year ago the tumbler was replaced but when it broke my key wouldnt turn at all. right now it turns, you can turn it backwards for radio, and it will turn forward so gauges lite and windows go up or down, but key wont turn past the run point so i cant start the car!

The solution lies in the interlock with the shift linkage. Make sure the transmission and therefore the shift colomn make it into park or neutral.

More: The interlock if a problem would not let you remove the key or get to accessory. So I have to rule out the interlock. This leaves the tumbler or a problem with the switch/switch linkage.

My key is stuck in the ignition.

Your car has several different ignition positions. They each offer slightly different functionality.
Off: In this position, the engine is off, and so are your electronic accessories (unless the delay has not expired yet). You can still turn on lights (headlights, interior lights, etc.).
ACC: This is the accessory position. Turn the key to ACC if you want to listen to the radio, play a CD or use other accessories without cranking the engine.
On: In this position, all of the electronics should come on. This is also the position that the key will return to after cranking the engine.
Start: Turn the key to this position to crank the engine. Let go of the key when the engine is running and the key will return to the on position.

I use to own a car that had an ignition that was ACC - OFF - ON - START.

Try turning your ignition one position clockwise and see if the radio turns off and the key comes out.

Most cars do this including the head lights , so the starter and ignition have less drain while starting. not sure if your model does this, If every thing is ok after starting nothing to worry about. If it wont start clean the battery terminals and check charging rate and battery.

Your electrics are definitely messed up, you need to bring that in to a mechanic to assess what connections are bad, and where.

2003 santa fa wont start, the dash board lights are on and the radio is playing but the car won't turn over. The key turns in the ignition with no resistance, we had to disconnect the battery to save it.

That means the linkage rod fell off your key cylinder. (this happens whenever someone tries to steal your car) the push rod presses your ignition switch. If you know how to pull your steering wheel off, you can replace the key cylinder (if some of the casting is broken) by going to a junkyard. Get a cylinder with a key (you can make copies of the new key later) If the key cylinder was ok then just reattach the rod and put the steering wheel back on (being careful to keep the wheels facing forward before you remove the steering wheel so that you put it back the same way)

My car is stuck in anti theft mode and I cant get my car to start

The problem is your Vats security system. This causes the car to either "not start" or "shut down" while running. (depending on the system) If the security light flashes, i guarantee that this is what the problem is. 1st trick, turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start.
Cheap fix:
----- http://vats.likeabigdog.com/
----- Bypassing the key
Never worry again fix:

----- With this fix, you can take that whole Vats, passlock, passkey **** system out of your car all together. Good info on both sites

WONT START.SECURITY LIGHT FLASHES WHEN TRYYING TO START

Anti Theft System - inmobilizer is actovated. Need disarm to start engine. Have you another key and fob? Try lock/unlock cycle with new key + fob. Your key may be corrupted.

Try also just unlocking the car with the key (not the fob) as soon as you unlock the door put the key in the ignition immediately and see if the car starts.

If you have your radio code it may be worth trying a total reset (leave the car unlocked) disconnect the battery and leave for 20 mins. then reconnect.

Hope help with this.

Car wont start without pushing keypad, key turns and lights, radio etc appears but car wont start. its a 1996 model

check the earth wire from the battery, if it is a poor connection the car will not start but you may still get lights etc.

The starter motor could be completely jammed. put the car in gear with the keys not in the ignition and push the car forward until you feel the engine turn over, this may free the starter motor up.

My Car will not start, the key wont turn at all

THe tumblers in the ignition cylinder are probably worn therefore won't alow you to turn the key. Try inserting the key and jiggle it around while you are trying to start it. Sometimes it will work.
