I had this problem on my wife's Jeep Cherokee.  The only way that I could get it to stop was to take the entire dash apart to get at the back of the instrument panel.  Once you get there, there is a plug in on the back of it, I clean that off with rubbing alcohol and clean the plug up as well.  I couldn't figure anything else to do so I put it back together and haven't had it happen again for the last 6 months.  Just to let you know if your Grand is like her sport, you will get everything off of the dash and think you should be able to get to the instrument panel just to find that there is a clip holding the headlight switch on keeping the panel from coming all the way off.  I had to put my head in the floor and my feet in the air to get to it, but I got it off.  Good luck!

It took me about an hour to take everything apart and then put it back together.  I think the reason that it took so long for me is because I couldn't figure out how to deal with the headlight switch problem I told you about.  There are several screws and there are also just some spring clips that you have to pull hard to get them to come out.  It's kinda easy to just feel where it is still attached and look for a screw.  If no screw it will be a spring clip.  Hope this helps.

I had the same exact problem and jeep looked at it over a dozen times. Jeep replaced the ignition switch and computer but they could never reproduce the problem, of course. I kept bothering Jeep until they replaced part of the wiring harness between the ignition switch the next conection. Problem solved. I had always said that it was a short in the wiring harness but they are too reliant on the in dash computer to tell them the problem. I hope this helps. P.S. this problem will kill your battery.
