Question about 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

1 Answer

Trailblazer in park but stuck in drive, will not turn on.

Recently my trailblazer when turned on will have the brake lights come on, air blower off and the truck is sluggish out of first. after a few minutes everything goes off and the AC works. This is all happening simultaniously. however the truck is still sluggish out of a parked position. today the car was parked and turned off correctly. when we went to start it it would not start. I thought it was in nuetral because it rolled. but when I turned the key to get dash info it said it was stuck in park. I think there is a technical service bulliten out there on this exact problem but do not know how to get it since I have to have it towed to Chevy.

so you dont think that it has anything to do with the ac blower and the brake lights simultaniously being off and coming on at the exact time?

Hi sllyrdhd1,

thanks for using fixya.

this issue is a possible fault on the transmission solenoid and or the gear selector. if these are at fault the gearbox may either be stuck on drive or stuck on part, or be stuck in a specific gear not shifting up or down.

having this towed to Chevy will be the best solution. Chevy will check all the components of your gearbox ensuring operation and parts replacement / repair if needed.

hope this helps.

regards,

voodoo

yes it is also a possibility, grounded wires that affects the electronics of the transmission. but above all, this will boil down to the transmission assembly.

nope they should not. as a technician, if you tell me initially to check on the gear selector and the transmission solenoid, i will never say that the whole assembly need replacement as that will cost half of the cars value. never fall into that kind of trap :)

You been under the dash? In the steering column maybe?

Most vehicles won't shift out of park unless the brake pedal is pressed. That activates the brake switch and unlocks the transmission shift lever. Funny, that's under the dash too! Look for a dislodged connector on the steering column, one on the brake switch and hopefully you will find one or more connector issues. The heater blower is the odd one.

My car is stuck in park, the brake lights do not work, Ive replaced the switch on the brake pedal and the turn signal switch. Its a 1995 Ford Taurus GL with a 3.0L. I can get the car out of park by turning...

The neutral safety switch on the tranny is going out. Replace this switch and you should not have any more problems. This switch registers that your foot is on the brake before it will allow it to come out of park to keep kids from accidently engaging the shifter.

Check the main fuse box under the hood on the drivers side. You should do it with an ohmmeter. good luck. The cruise control is probably the door lock module. Are your interior lights stuck on?
