Hi I am Vortash you say you purchased the car yesterday had it been standing long if so what is the condition of the battery ?. Best thing to do is take it off and put it on charge overnight and see what the amperage draw is in the morning .. it should reduce as it is charged .. Have you a spark at the spark plug and if you do are the plugs in good condition some plugs spark outside the cylinder and fail under pressure , are the plugs wet indicating that the petrol is getting through or dry indicating not ? is the fuel fresh how long has it been in the vehicle add more to be sure .. check fuel filters are they clear and air filters ... finaly .. is there compression if you can place a compression tester in the plug port then crank the car it should read at least 120 to 150 psi or in the green if it has no numbers .. if it is low then the problem may be badly seated valves or cylinder head gasket ...... also check the fuses the it may be something as simple as that hope this helps Regards Vortash ..

Why won't it key start?

Does the car crank (turn over)? If not, you could have a bad starter. If you can kick start the car, that means the security is off (working properly). If security is activated, it usually will shut down starter, ignition or fuel, or a combination of the three. Hook up a voltmeter to the ignition switch terminal at starter, have a helper turn key to crank position and see if you have battery voltage. If so and starter doesn't turn, you need to replace starter.

2004 VW New Beetle Stalling

Check the oil level to make sure you have sufficient oil in the crankcase, and that it's not burnt. Also check the level of the antifreeze/coolant in the cooling system. Low levels can cause the car to shut down. Alway look at the cheaper easy to solve problems, then move to the more complicated.

98 Beetle needs to "warm up" before moving.. stalls while driving

I would start by scanning the car, your Audi friend should be able to help, being that they are basically the same car. If nothing appears then start looking at wire harnesses and grounds, VW uses brown wires for it's grounds very common to have a bad engine ground to mess you up. Good luck.

2001 VW Beetle Will not start

Hi.
Check the heavy duty cables from the battery to the starter motor and solenoid and also the battery earthing (grounding?) - there terminals could be corroded / burned.

Hope this helps you a bit. If it does, a "Fixya" rating would be much appreciated. If it doesn't
help you, I'd be grateful if you didn't bother with a rating at all. Just come back and tell me what you found. Cheers, D
