SOURCE: gmc safari van cranks over, but will not fire up

I had the same problem with my 2000 GMC Safari two years ago....drove me CRAZY!

Sometimes it would start right up...other times it just would crank and not start.

It turned out to be a cracked coil....I found it by using a spray bottle with water in it, and "misting" the engine, at night....with the engine running. (On a night when it DID start!)

It took a while, but finally the hairline crack let in some water and the electrical short showed by a spark coming out of the coil.

I replaced the coil with a new one, and it has never "not started" since.

Evidently the coil cover gets brittle and develops small, hairline cracks due to heat from the engine.

Oh...by the way....I tested the coil it showed that it was fine!....but it took the "misting" at night...in the dark...to find the spark "leaking" out.

I changed the fuel pump but the van still won't

And you know the fuel filter is good? Could be injector problem: just as a check, spray some starting fluid into the intake and see if engine runs a few seconds. If it does, it is a fuel problem. Check injector fuse, as a start. Check fuel pressure. Check injector circuit. If engine won't start with starting fluid, check if you are getting spark. Problem may be in the ignition system.

93 gmc safari odometer stopped working, then started again, then turns over but won't start.

It could be a bad fuse or a bad fuel pump not providing fuel for the car. It could also be an issue with the timing belt.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is causing a back fire in the throttle body? My 93 safari wil run if pumping on the gas but dies as soon as u let off the pedal..

That is usually a timing problem but it could be the carburetor in need of a rebuild. If I remember correct GM was using Rochester Carbs on that model and they are notorious for this problem.

I replaced the fuel pump on my 93 gmc safari van and now the fuze keeps blowing

Could be a defective fuel pump, or a wire got pinch while installing fuel pump, will have to drop gas tank again.

My Safari will turn over but not fire? Why

When you turn the key to the on position, listen to see if you can hear the fuel pump running in the gas tank. You should hear a humming noise coming from under the van. If you do not hear the humming, check the fuses. If okay, use a can of starting fluid and someone to start the van(a two person process), spray the starting fluid into the air intake; keep spraying while the other person is starting the van. Do this for approximately 60 seconds. If the van starts up you have a fuel delivery problem; especially if you hear the humming noise coming from the fuel tank. The humming at least lets you know that you have power going to the fuel pump. The fuel pumps go out on these vans every now and then. If you live in a hot climate don't let your tank get below 1/4 of a tank; if you do this, it will lengthen the life of the fuel pump. More fuel in the tank allows the pump to run cooler. Check the fuel filter. When was the last time that it was changed? If the pump is indeed bad you will be changing the fuel filter, the pickup sock, and the fuel pump. Make sure you have not run out of gas.

Had to have fuel pump replaced on my 2000 Safari Van

You need to find the psi ratings for the pump you have and see if it matches the pressure specs for a 2000 GMC Safari pump. The parts store you purchased it from( or any parts store) should be able to look up that info on his merchandise

93 astro van turns over has juice but wont fire

a real quick way to test your fuel pump is to take a rubber mallet and have some one crank the engine while you beat on the bottom of the gas tank if your vehicle starts you have a bad fuel pump and it should be removed and replaced with a new one,
