Blower motor now only works in 5th speed, 1 to 4 not working

On my 2001 Chevy Malibu the Heating / AC blower was only working on speeds 3,4,5. I replace the blower resistor, and now it only work on speed 5. Could it be the mini relay located under the hood? Did I now burn out the new resistor. When I pulled the old resistor, it did look damaged.

After replacing the blower motor resistor, I took out the mini-relay that was in the fuse box under the hood. I didn't have a replacement, but when I pushed it back in, all five speeds on the blower motor started to work again. It could be that the mini-relay is faulty. I don't know much about the mini-relay, but I do know that without it the blower motor won't work in any speed.

You are going to have to make a connector for your resistor to fit into the adapater under the dash. the new resistor doesnt reach the terminals on the connector. Even though it clips in place it doesnt reach. I took a piece of small soldier and put in the connector then plugged it in and it worked just fine. When you unplug the relay it will not work in any speed.

I'd look to see if the resistor that you put in was the same as you took out, if it was anything else you would have speeds 3 4 and 5

I turn on the AC on 1 or 2 the blower doesn't work. Work only on 3,4 and 5. I replace the blower motor but still doing the same. I switch the fuses and power relay and nothing works.

My understanding there is some type of card up above the blower motor. I can not think of what it is called but this controlls the speed of the motor when switching the fan speeds.

SOUNDS LIKE THE SWITCH & OR THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR, ARE THE PROBLEM WITH THE LOWER SPEEDS. SPEED 5 MAY HAVE ITS OWN FUSE, REFER TO OWNERS MANUAL FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THE HEATER/AC FUSE.

How to replace blower motor system pack on 2001 chevy malibu

first, remove the lower right dash insulator panel from below glove box. slide bcm aside for access to blower motor.(slide to right). remove 3 screws from blower housing, pull blower motor and fan straight down. if putting in a new motor, use cage from old blower. the resistor for fan speeds is located beside motor. good-luck!!

ON A 2001 CHEVY MALIBU THE BLOWER FAN ONLY WORKS ON SPEEDS 4,5 .... 1,2,3 DONT WORK, FUSES ARE FINE

The blower fan uses a multi segment resister to control the fan speed, it is generally mounted just under the blower in the ducting. The reason 1,2 and 3 are not working is, sections of the resister is burnt out. The lower speeds are the first ones to go since they get hotter due the higher load in soaking the unused power. Resister is around $20. look for blower resister.

Why does the blower motor only work on spped 4 and

Usually when the blower only works on the higher speeds, the blower motor resistor has gone bad. This should be located somewhere near the blower motor itself, it is usually bolted to the blower motor housing (or in that area), just unbolt it and you can replace it. Hope this helps

Blower motor or resistor?

If it was the motor that went out then it would not blow at all. The resistor is the culprit that starts killing off speeds. It should be about $25 to $30 at an aftermarket store like autozone or advanced auto parts.

Good call emissionwiz. It's right behind the blower motor, under the glove box area. Remove the shroud below the glove box, 2 screws and a snap-pop fitting. Be careful of the courtesy light. Remove the blower moter and disconnect the purple/black power connector to it - - you'll need this extra room to work with. 2 more screws, same size, 6.5mm on mine, 7or 8mm on some others, that holds the blower motor resistor in place. This replacement part is less than 40 bones at most parts store. Unplug, replace, re-install, test and you're on your way with about 2 hours of slow paced effort in your own driveway. Typical cost at a garage - up to $400, what a sham.
