I have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid with a code of odb480

This is a generic powertrain diagnostic trouble code (DTC), which means it covers all makes/models, 1996-newer. However, specific troubleshooting steps will vary depending your vehicle. pulling the code P0480 displayed, if refers to the engine cooling fan circuit. It is a generic code applying to all OBD II (on board diagnostics) vehicles. The PCM (powertrain control module) senses the increase in engine temperature through the CTS (coolant temperature sensor) located near the thermostat. When the temperature reaches about 223-degrees F (value depends on make/model/engine), the PCM will command the cooling fan relay to turn on the fan. It does so by supplying the ground to the relay.
There is a problem within this circuit causing the fan to fail to operate allowing the engine to overheat while sitting still or driving at a slow speed. When the PCM attempts to activate the fan and senses the command and the result do not match, the code is set. Symptoms may include:
  • Check engine light (malfunction indicator lamp) illumination and code P0480 set
  • Engine temperature will rise when the vehicle stops and idles
Potential Causes The causes for this DTC may include:
  • Faulty fan control relay 1
  • Fan control relay harness is open or shorted
  • Circuit electrical connections poor
  • Faulty cooling fan 1
  • Faulty coolant temperature sensor
  • Fan cooling fan harness is open or shorted
  • Cooling fan circuit poor electrical connection. hope this helps you.

My cooling fan won't turn on in my dodge intrepid

several things need to be checked, first is the fan good you can put 12volts directly to the fan if you are familiar with working on cars ,there is also a fan relay which can be bad try switching it out ,there is also a sensor which tells the fan when the temp is at 220 degrees and it is time for the fans to come on

My dodge 1995 intrepid will run but the fan does not kick on to cool the engine.once i stop the engine has to cool to restart.Problem is...

This is a common problem. Usually, the fan's RELAY has went bad. This relay can usually be found under the hood, somewhere in the engine compartment.
The relay is just a switch, and is activated by the engines temperature sensor.
It is just a pull-out, and plug back in little black box. usually, it is well labeled, and easy to find. it will be in a box, with a lid, and when you remove the lid, there should be several large fuses, and some little black boxes that usually say BOSCH 30A on them.

If you change the relay, and your fan still does not work properly, then the problem may be the temperature sensor on the engine, the wiring, or the fan itself may have went bad.
But, start with the relay switch, as it is the most likely culprit.

Good Luck.

Cooling fans wont come on

Have you replaced the relays for the radiator fans? They are located in a box near the battery. All of the relays are the same(like a 20 amp fuse) so you can test the relay by moving them around. Try using the cruise control relay in its place and see if it comes on.

Cooling fans are not working with the high/low relay in took relay out fans worked and now only one fan works

One cooling fan will most likely not come on,unless needed, like maybe when the ac is turned on,and the engine is real warm,so get it in that condition,to make sure it is not actualy coming on.

Fan runs continually on a 1995 dodge intrepid.

CHANGE THE FAN RELAY. THERE ARE SMALL CONTACTS ON THE INSIDE THAT OPEN AND CLOSE WHEN THE SENSOR TELLS THEM TO. THESE CONTACTS COULD POSSIBLY BE FUSED TOGETHER FROM EXCESSIVE HEAT. THIS SHOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. HOPE THIS HELPS. KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK

My 97 dodge intrepid 3.5L is running hot.

Most likely a bad fan relay, or a bad temp sensor. Does the fan come on with the A/C? If not, most likely the relay, if so, most likely the temp sensor.
