Hello. I understand your frustrations as I too own a 2001 monte carlo and have had the same problem...along with several others. My engine temp gauge would show ZERO degrees because of the bad coolant temp sensor. So I replaced it with one from autozone (BIG MISTAKE) The one from autozone was **** and gave the car a different problem. The fans would not run while the engine was running and would run when the engine was off until the battery rundown protector would shut them down. this lasted about 2 weeks during which I had to keep my heater on (in the middle of summer) to keep my car from over heating because my fans wouldnt run. The autozone jerks said "if my temp gauge was working then the sensor was doing its job" and that "there is another problem" Well I finally called the dealership and they told me that autozone is junk and to try advance auto parts and to get the next one up from the cheapest...this is what they use...and NASCAR uses. It was a few dollars more (around $25) Problem solved. However a few months later the cooling fans went completly out..this was due to them experiencing such high temperatures for 2 weeks. I replaced them with ones from a salvage yard for $50. Dont let this happen to you...

SS w/3.8l engine. What would cause the first electric fan not run but when temp rises the second fan will come on?

The coolant fan should kick on when temp reaches 192 degrees. Have you changed your thermostat? The 2nd fan is for the a/c. If car is running hot, it's probably thermostat or cooling fan

Car overheating replaced everything and still overheats

try a pressure test on the radiator while it engine is running.. If your head gasket is broken the compression of the engine goes into the cooling system. If the pressure rapidy increases it would indicate a head gasket problem.

2002 monte carlo ss the will start but the engine cooling fan want start

The engine cooling fan is controlled by a thermostatic switch. From your description, I believe you are assuming the fan comes on immediately when the engine starts. Not so. It only comes on when a certain temperature is reached

200w cheve monte carlo overheating,changed,radiator,water pump.

Change the thermostat and the coolat resevoir cap.These are the 2 main things for overheating problems. The thermostat sticks and the cap will let coolant escape from the tank, after a couple of trips the engine overheats. Also make sure your cooling fans are coming on. Physically pull the relays and all fuses, as the do lose contact.

2001 monte carlo ss. has heat but heat gauge does not work and cooling fans do not cycle just keep running

Hi, check the connection on your temperature sensor. If the connection is good, replace the sensor. The cost is about $11 at autozone. The sensor is located at the back of the engine, near the transmission. See pictures below. Use some water pump sealant on the threads when installing the new sensor. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

if it is overheating try replacing the thermostat first. If it is stuck closed the coolant cant cycle through the engine properly. Also, try a flush and fill.

2001 chevy monte carlo is overheating when driving

Hi;
If your engine cools down when moving fast, you either have a problem with your water pump or your electric fans that cool off your radiator and a/c condenser. This is controlled by a temperature switch, but these fans should kick on instantly when A/C is selected.

2002 monte carlo overheating

Better make sure the fan works. There is a switch on the radiator that turns the fan on when it gets to a certain temperature. It could be the fan or the switch. Your thermostat is not your cap, it's in a different location. (Usually at the engine end of the upper radiator hose) Get the leak check! A good garage can pressure test the system to see what leaks you might have.

1995 monte carlo overheating

If the radiator fan isn't coming on I would check the coolant temperature sensor which tells the fan to turn on. Check your owners manuel for locations of fuses or relays that control the fan. Lastly you can unplug the fan and direct jumper it to make sure the motor isn't burnt out. I hope this helps.
