Your code reader on your contour is under your
dash, driver side is black color so use a flashlight
it helps.

Have the engine hooked up to a diagnostic meter to see exactly where the problem is. No sense in replacing a lot of parts when only one or two may be necessary.

The timing on Contours is not adjustable, as it is controlled by the Engine Control Module (ECM), the computer that controls and monitors the engine functions.

Contour's are notorious for check engine lights. Mine has been on for years. The only way really to reset the CEL is to rent or buy a code reader and record the codes that are stored. Information on CEL codes is available on the internet. FYI the most common code for contour's are P0420 and P0421. These won't cause any driveability issues. As for your heater problem, your fan blower relay is toast

If you go to your Ford Dealership service department, and bring your VIN number off of your Contour, they can look up your radio code for you.

Got a 1999 ford contour had alternator rebuilt replaced spark plugs..car started dieing while in idle..took it to shop and they replaced the cam and crankshaft sensors..as long as the alternator wasnt...


It still sounds like the alternaror is putting out to many amps and more than 13.5 volts when hooked up but what you could do is to borrow one from someone else and try it if it runs ok then YOU NO THE ANSWER TO THAT

1999 ford contour, 2.0 dohc The code P0340 set and the car has no power


This code is set the camshaft position sensor, it is part of the ignition system, this can cause your loss of power.
