My 1988 Buick LeSabre blows coolant steam into the passenger compartment when I turn on the heat and the fan. Also there is dripping coolant coming from the under the dashboard onto the floormats. Could...

Yes! the heater core is bad/leaking. it sits inside the heater box under the dash. it is a fairly big job to replace and should be done by someone who is knowlegeable and expierenced in the replacement of them. the ac system ahs to be drained/evacuated if still charged and the heater box opened for removal of the heater core. Sorry for the bad news but you are correct in your diagnosis.
I hope you find or have someone who wil take care of you on the price. This can be rather expensive to have repaired. Ballpark of 350-500 depending on labor per hour costs at a professional shop.
Good luck , Scott

How hard is it to replace the heater core and how much should it cost.

The heater core in the LeSabre is one of the easiest to replace. I can do one in 30 minutes and I'm not a mechanic. I've never paid to have it done. Here are directions.

NO, this year and model is not bad. the dash doesnt have to come out. on this model its done from under the hood, remove the hoses to ccore at the core then remove the cover and remove the heater core, if theres a switch in front of the cover remove also, the job is time rated at 2.5 hours. here a diagram to help you,9702c78.gif

I need to know how to replace the heater core, is it something i can handle or do i need to take it somewere?

usually not that hard on an older GM. locate approx location of heater core by looking for two matching size water lines that enter the passenger compartment thru the firewall from the engine compartment. go inside under dash and look for the heater core box. remove screw to open and expose the heater core

Need to replace heater core in 1993 buick. water leaking on floor board. need to know the location

the core is under the middle of the dash - look in under hood - you will see 2 aluminum pipes going behind motor into firewall - these are a/c lines - close to this you will also see 2 black hoses about thumb size - these are the heater hoses to the heater core - the dash might have to come out to get heater core from a/c fan housing
