Question about 1996 Chevrolet Lumina Mini

Engine fan for 1996 chevy cavalier wont run I just discovered i have the same problem but with my 1996 chevy lumina, 3.1 V6, my mechanic that had just replaced my cracked head and gaskets, noticed that the electric fans werent coming on when the engine got warm, we located the box with the fuses and relays he tested the fans for operation by removing the relays then taking a piece of wire, putting one end to the hot lead, then the other end to car ground which they both came on but since it was late and he was going out of town on vacation, me made me a jumper wire with an aligator clip to manually turn fans on and off till he gets back, he says fans either controlled by brain of car or a sensor if we cant figure it out i will wire a rocker switch inside of car to manally turn them on off as needed I need to find a wiring diagram to help solve the trouble, also the heater on this car comes on at time even though the engine is off and the switch to the heater control is in the off position, have to turn ignition key to on to stop it

What's your problem?1996 chevy cavalier dash warning light has a red arrow pointing towards water and car smells like something is burning P

The light does it say Water? You are sure about this? Please have this checked by a mechanic asap,. if it is starting to run hot if you catch it early then you can avoid serious damage to the engine. The smell may be a leaking engine water pump or other component of the engines cooling sytstem.

Im looking to buy a 1998 lumina tomorrow, and was looking for some advice about the vehicle??

I actually drove a Lumina for several years as a work car. Both of the ones that I had were equipped with the 3.1 V6 engine. These were both 1996 models, but very much the same. I have another Lumina in my spare vehicles yard at my shop. It got put out to pasture due to an accident though rather than mechanical issues. I averaged 25-28 miles per gallon and had no major issues. I guess that I would have to say these year Chevys were a pretty good car. Thats saying alot since I am usually strictly a Ford man... Let me know if there is anything specific that you need to know.. Best of Luck..

PS... I definately do like the 3.1 engine over the 3.4 liter..

Car starts but volts light stays on 1996 chevy lumina

This usually indicates your altenator is not working properly and should be replaced.

You can confim this by hooking a DC volt meter to a power source and when the car is running you should see 13.6 volts (or more)

Hesitation , skipping, engine cuts out when accelerating

Im having the same issue I believe. I have a 94\' Chevy 1500 and when i accelerate it will jerk like the gas has cut out but it wont stall. It just jerks and slows me down. It only seems to do it when going up a hill. I feel like it could be the fuel pump or possibly some intake gaskets?
