Rattling sound inside engine on acceleration

Rattling sound on acceleration for 1995 3.2L ford taurus sho. Removed fan belt and sound is still there. Sounds like inside front of engine. Used to be only on hard acceleration, now just accelerating normally. Changed timing belt only about 10k miles.

Forgot. Water pump was replaced at the same time as the belt.

Possibly the bearings in the water pump, but that should have been replaced when the timing belt was done, because of the work involved

i wish i could remember whats in those SHO engines, its been about 5 years since i changed a timing belt in one, which was a 1991,and it wasnt so much fun...im not sure but i thought the oil pump drives off the timing belt which could be worn out but there would be ticking from the valve covers..im trying to remember but so many cars are so different...or how about the timing belt idler pulley or tensioner?if you are doing the repairs yourself, then try pulling off the timing belt cover and inspect everything closely, its alot of work and i dont mean to cause you excess work, but if there is a problem with the timing belt then you should catch it before it blows,o tolerence engines are expensive to fix.

I have a 96 Ford Taurus and when I turn the engine on, and while accelerating there's a squeaking sound.

Well,a drive belt needs to be replaced every 50,000 mi. or so,and a weak tensioner can allow slack which causes sqeak even if the belt is good.
The idler pulley on those is easy to replace also. If the tensioner isn't holding the drive belt very tighly, replace it and the belt.
Auto Zone will let you put down a deposit and borrow a tool to work the tensioner so the belt can be easily removed. don-ohio

How to put serpentine belt on a 2004 taurus. instruction & diagram

The 8th digit of your car's VIN (vehicle identification number) tells you the engine
type for your car - your choices for Ford Taurus are U (3.0L), and S (3.0L).
I've included the Ford SHO engine too.

Serpentine belt for 3.0L (Vin S) Ford Taurus

archaeology_40.jpg
Serpentine Belt for Ford 3.4L SHO engine

Water Pump belt for Ford 3.4L SHO engine

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  1. Attach a 15mm socket or wrench to the bolt attaching the tensioner pulley.
  2. On all 3.0L (OHV) engines, rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to relieve belt tension and slide the belt off the pulleys.
  3. On 3.0L (DOHC) engines, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise to relieve belt tension and slide the belt off the pulleys.

To install:
  1. Install the drive belt on all the pulleys except the tensioner pulley.
  2. Rotate the belt tensioner as outlined in the removal procedure to relieve belt tension and install the belt onto the tensioner pulley. Make sure the V-grooves make proper contact with the pulleys. Make sure the spring keeper releases or improper belt tension will occur.
Tip: you may want to get (free) a serpentine belt installation tool kit to help with this job.
Both Advance Auto Parts and AutoZone wisely have loan-a-tool programs that permit you
to borrow (for a deposit) their serpentine belt installation kits - which allow their
handy customers to use their auto parts rather than towing it to a garage.

Alternator replaced

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

The different engine applications that the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable are equipped with utilize different types of alternators. The following is a list of vehicle applications. For 1986-90 vehicles:

The 3.0L and the 3.8L engines utilize a side terminal alternator.

The 2.5L and the 3.8L (with Police Package only) engines utilize an alternator with an integral rear mount regulator and an internal fan.

The 3.0L SHO engines utilize an alternator with an internal fan and regulator. For 1991-93 vehicles:

The 2.5L, 3.0L and 3.8L engines utilize an alternator with a rear mount regulator and an internal fan.

The 3.0L and 3.2L SHO engines utilize an alternator with an internal regulator and fan.For 1994-95 vehicles:

The 3.0L, 3.8L and 3.0L SHO engines utilize an alternator with a rear mount regulator and an internal fan.

The 3.2L SHO vehicles utilize an alternator with a internal regulator and fan.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Loosen the alternator pivot bolt, then remove the adjusting bolt.
3. Remove the alternator drive belt from the drive pulley.
4. Tag and disengage the wiring terminals from the back of the alternator. The stator and the field wiring are the push-on type of retainer. After depressing the lock tab, the connector should be pulled straight off of the terminal to prevent damage.
5. Remove the alternator pivot bolt, then remove the alternator from the engine.
6. Position the alternator on the engine.
7. Install the alternator pivot bolt and the adjusting bolt, but do NOT tighten the bolts until the drive belt it tensioned.
8. Engage the wiring terminals to the alternator, as tagged during removal.
9. Install the drive belt over the alternator drive pulley, then adjust the belt tension using Belt Tension Gauge 021-00019, or equivalent.

When adjusting belt tension, apply pressure on the front housing only.

10. Tighten the adjusting bolt to 30-45 ft. lbs. (41-61 Nm), then tighten the pivot bolt to 50-70 ft. lbs. (68-94 Nm).
11. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope helps.

I have a 2005 Ford Explorer and I am experiencing a rattling noise in the front of my engine when I accelerate. Any idea what could cause this?

There are a few things i would look at, the common problems are the exhaust system may have a rattle clamp or the rings on the exhaust flex pipe, the next is the fan belt area, the ac compressor or a pulley may be worn and loose i would start with these things first, good luck.

Where is the tension pully on a 1993 ford taurus 3.0 motor

there is no spring tensioner on some of the 3.0 engines. See instructions below. I will paste a pic on the version that DOES have a tensioner at the bottom of this post.

3.0L Engine-Except SHO
ALTERNATOR BELT WITHOUT AUTOMATIC TENSIONER

  1. Loosen the adjusting arm and pivot bolts.
  2. Turn the alternator belt adjusting screw counterclockwise until the old belt can be removed.
  3. Remove the belt.

To install:
  1. Install the new belt over the pulleys. Check that all the V-grooves make proper contact with the pulleys.
  2. Adjust the belt tension, then tighten the adjusting arm and pivot bolts.

3.0L SHO Engine
ALTERNATOR BELT
See Figure 2
  1. Loosen the nut in the center of the idler pulley.
  2. Loosen the idler adjusting screw until the old belt can be removed, then remove the belt.

To install:
  1. Install the new belt over the pulleys in proper contact with the pulleys.
  2. Adjust the new belt to specifications as follows: Turn the idler pulley nut to the right to tighten the belt to a specification of 220-265 lbs. (980-1180 N). Torque the idler pulley nut to 25-37 ft. lbs. (34-50 Nm).

POWER STEERING AND AIR CONDITIONING BELT
See Figure 2
  1. Remove the alternator belt.
  2. Loosen the nut on the tensioner pulley.
  3. Turn the belt adjusting screw on the tensioner counterclockwise until the belt can be removed, then remove the belt.

To install:
  1. Position the new belt over the proper pulleys, making sure the V-grooves are properly seated.
  2. Install the alternator belt.
  3. Adjust the power steering and air conditioning belt to a specification of 154-198 lbs. (690-980 N) with a belt tension gauge.
  4. Adjust the alternator belt.
3.0L Engine (Except SHO) and 3.8L Engine
VEHICLES THROUGH 1993 WITH AUTOMATIC TENSIONER

See Figures 4 and 5
  1. Insert a 1 / 2 in. breaker bar into the square hole in the tensioner.

On the 3.8L engine, the tensioner has a1/2in. square hole cast into the rear of the tension arm directly behind the pulley. On the 3.0L engine, the1/2in. square hole is cast into the spring housing on the front of the tensioner.
  1. Rotate the tensioner clockwise and remove the belt.

IT is a 1998 taurus SHO model very rare it seems to be. Why can't I find a place that will sell me a Ford Taurus Manual for a 1996-1999 taurus SHO model with the 3.4 V8 yamaha engine.

If you are looking for a haynes manual or something which are based on complete tear down and rebuilds of the car, i would see if on the book itself it lists your engine, yamaha only made one car engine really and it was for the SHO which is fantastic however rare, look online and in google for a manual that lists your car, if you are not a fan of buying online, try phoning a company but unless the book you are searching does not list your engine it might cover all the rest but not your powertrain.

Here is a book i found online its a chilton.
