Check the speakers if they work. Connect the speaker terminals using a short wire to a 1.5 volt battery (AA or any dry cell batter) and listen if there's a thumping sound when the wires are connected to the battery terminals. If there's no sound, your speakers are busted. If there's a sound, check if the wires are okay. Use the same method with the battery with the wires from the back of your stereo. Make a small cut on the wire and attach the short wires you used earlier.

Factory stereo only working on left side speakers and plays very softely

I had a 1994 Gmc truck that did that, turns out speakers had gone out and the other side was about to give, pull one of your speakers out from the side that dont work and wire up a AAA battery to see if it makes a sound when you connect the battery to the neg and pos side.

sounds the like the vehicle had an oem amplifier that was removed, most after market stereo installers will trace the speakers wires individually by continuity to by pass the factory amplifier and wire the new head unit to the vehicles speakers, if the harness has been spliced or factory amp removed, you will need to check if the amplifier still exists (usually under passenger rear seat sometimes located in trunk area) and see if the harness has been bypassed. if so you will have to reconnect the harness by color code in order to use the factory head unit

My 2004 Grand Am GT Stereo Issue

I had the same problem when I changed out the factory cd player. I finally found the problem was that grand am gt cars have a couple of amplifiers with crossovers in them for the speakers and the after market stereos put out sound that has been slightly amplified already and when you hook up your new stereo to the wiring harness your sending amplified sound from your stereo the the factory amp then to the speakers this sometimes messes with he sound and clarity of the sound. My car is 2002 and the factory amps are located 1 under the glove box and 2 in the trunk behind the carpet on the drivers side. The amp and crossover in the front is to split the signal for the door speaker and the tweeter by the mirror and the amp in the trunk is to split the signal for the two way speaker in the back by the back window witch if they are like my factory speakers have 2 wiring harnesses connected to each speaker. the only way I could get mine to sound good was to run new wires from your stereo directly to the speakers and bypass the factory amps. This may not be the only way to fix this issue but it was the only way I could figure it out. I hope this helps

Only one side of the speakers work passenger side

Hi have you tried using the settings on the stereo that controls the balance from front to back and side to side if you have changed these settings without knowing then the stereo output might be in the possition for the one side.
If after doing this you still have the same problem then i would remove the stereo and check all the wires are secure if they are then you need to remove the casing for the side speakers and check the wires for corrosion and make sure connected properly.

Usually the speakers wont just suddenly stop working if the problem was with the speaker then you would have noticed over time that the sound was distorted or would have sounded crackley from the speakers.
If this is not the case then check the speaker balance on stereo and then check wires.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

1998 firebird passenger window "sticks"

Okay Lets start with the window problem.

The factory wire guage is too small and under-powers the windows. You can read up about it on www.ls1tech.com, just do a search for AutoTrix or slow passenger window.

Here is a post about it
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/sponsor-sales-specials/609987-slow-passenger-window-check-out.html

You can get the wiring kit at www.autotrix.net

For the speaker: I would take the door panel off and check the connections for the speaker. It might be easier to check the connections on the back of the stereo first but something either came undone or the speaker died.

The headlight is another common problem. The headlight motors come with plastic gears that strip. Yours could just be sticking from rust on the linkage or the motor is dieing. If it is the gear I would look into this info here : http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/headlightfix/gearinstall.htm
If you just go to his home page there is TONS of info on firebirds

Good Luck

Rear speakers don't work

Sir,
I do not want to insult you in any way, but I must ask just in case it was overlooked! First check to be sure that the speaker settings on the stereo were not set all the way to the front. If that is not the problem, you can hook another speaker you know works to the wireing to the rear speakers to check to see if it is the speaker or the wireing. If you hear sound from the speaker you know works, then your speakers in the car are bad. If you do not hear sound, then it will be from the wireing. Next is the more difficult part. You will have to pull the stereo out and can splice into the wires. Hook the good speakers up to the splice and check for sound. make sure you know for sure the wires you splice into are for the rear speakers. If you still hear no sound, then it is more then likely a problem in the stereo itself. If you do hear sound then there is a problem in the wireing somewhere and may be easier to just run new wires to the rear speakers.
