Changing spark plugs

I am getting ready to change spark plugs on a 2002 Tahoe with 5.3 engine. Plugs each have a metal sleeve. Can this be removed without damage?

It is possible to remove sleeves but if they are stuck on plug you WILL bend them up pretty good.as long as you can get em back on snug enough to protect plug wire boot, who cares if they're a lil beat up.good luck

Open bonnet. On top of engine towards the front, is a head cover. Remove that. Remove with caution the HT cables. Get a long socket wrench for plugs and remove each one. Careful with grit that might fall into the piston sleeve. Replace sparks and button all up reverse of the removal.

Do i need a special tool to remove sparkplugs for chevy tahoe 2002

The Metal Boot comes off with the plug wire......as far as removing and installing the plugs,it is pretty straight forward, Just a spark plug socket is needed to remove the plug.....the back plug on the passenger side, back by the fire-wall is the only tough one.....its just tight back there.

....The gap of.....0.60 is for the A/C Delco Platinum plugs which is what you Tahoe came with from the factory.......The Iridium plugs should be gaped at 0.40 right out of the box.....Check the Gap to make sure......But do not attempt to re-gap them as the Iridium tip can be easily damaged.....and last don't forget the anti-seize went installing the new plugs.

Where can i find a picture of a 2002 chevrolet tahoe engine to show me where the spark plugs r at to change them out myself instead of a mechanic?

There are 4 coils mounted on each side of the engine. Follow each spark plug wire down to the boot and under there you will find the plugs.

Engine moves after changing spak plugs & wires on 02ChevyTahoe

Well first thing you do is take out the plugs again and regap to 0.25tho(not 60) and it the fitting of the leads If there fitted correctly etc then it sounds like you have pre ign (due to over heating and tomuch fuel ,cause the engine to either keep running OR running Backwards thats called pre- igniton and can stuff your engine..
Let me know how you go Ron

could be a bad plug even know they are new one might be bad , first check in the dark for any arcing (blue sparks) coming from wires might be a split in one of the spark boots ,make sure on there good, also a chance you put wire to wrong cylinder

Changing plugs and power steering pump on an escape

I have a 2002 Escape V6 w/ 100,000 miles and I just changed the plugs. If you have a V6, you will have to remove the Upper Intake manifold. It's not too bad. You'll new a gasket set from Autozone or NAPA for about $10
