Question about 1998 Lincoln Town Car
When I purchased a compressor for a 1992 Lincoln Town Car from the auto store I was informed that I must also purchase and change the accumulator. Is this true? And if so, is there any steps I must take to change the accumulator?
Yes you must change the accum/dryer whrnever you open the system: once you open the system by removing lines from compressor moisture gets in the lines, this is what will cause your ac not to cool enough. the accun/dryer removes condensation from the freon, the accum/dryer is a low cost part compaired to compressor replacement and you will be unhappy i know if you skip the accum. replacement. once you have replaced everything (add new oil to compressor that is designed for the type of freon used) also replace all o-rings/or metal gaskets involved with parts removed/replaced! *****take your car to a mom and pop shop and get your system vacuume tested before freon install!!this is where they put a vaccum pump to your system and apply 30 lbs. vaccum to it and let it sit for an hour to check for leaks******it should hold the negative pressure, this also enables good flow of the new freon when charging and removes all air trapped inside that will take up space needed for proper charging and make your system less efficiant/cool.hope this helps...good luck

The accumulator is 17 years old, therefore it would be smart to replace it while the A/C compressor
is being replaced. There are no special steps for removal or replacement of the accumulator just
be sure all the fittings are tight.
