You have a serpentine belt, which is one belt drives all, so the routing of this belt is very specific also it matters whether or not you have a/c. Locate your belt routing chart under the hood before beginning. There is a tensioner pulley mounted on a spring arm, the spring arm should have a square drive hole in it, either 3/8" or 1/2" drive size you will need a ratchet of the proper size to insert into this square hole. Using the ratchet move the tension arm (away from belt) to loosen the belt and remove, route and install the new belt and move tensioner the same way place the belt over it and release. Hope this helps, let me know

What all should I replace while replacing the water Pump on my 2000 ford contour

That's a very good question...but I gather that this car has been taken care of and should be in very good shape and with economy the way it is..I see no reason to get a new car...My advice..Just get the water pump replaced and happy motoring....and don't let any mechanic try to sell you something that you don't need...I'm sure that you've heard the expression"If it ain't broke...don't fix it."..I hope this was heplful...PEACE.....

Need to replace waterpump

Your Malibu is equipped with probably the EASIEST water pump in the word to change.

Drain the cooling system.
Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
Remove the drive belt.
Remove the water pump pulley bolts and pulley.
Remove the water pump bolts, pump and gasket.
Clean the water pump mating surfaces.
Install the water pump and reassemble in reverse order

Hint: The O-ring that seals the water pump is much easier to install if you use a little dielectric grease to "stick" it to the water pump before installing. This O-ring needs to expand and contract and move freely in the water pump groove due to extreme changes in engine temperature. The dielectric grease will actually help accomplish this. DO NOT use RTV silicone to "glue" the O-ring.

I wanna know how to change waterpump

Remove drive belt. Remove all coolant, remove hoses to water pump, Remove all screws from water pump, remove gasket from hard surface, use permatex gasket sealer on both sides of waterpump gasket and apply to engine side, then waterpump, hold water pump in place until all water pump nuts screws are installed, use torque wrench, no more the 10 ft lbs. The rest is the reverse of uninstallation.

My 98 ford contour keeps overheating i just replaced the radiator and the water pump. And there is no water in the oil. The fans work but it still overheats . What else could be causing it to overheat?

I can't believe anyone would replace the waterpump without also replacing the thermostat. Once overheated, a thermostat is no good anymore. It must be replaced.

But that is not the only possibility. You could have a bad head gasket, without having oil in the water. Only a pressure check can tell. You could also have a collapsing lower hose, as water pump suction causes it to pinch off. You could also have an air bubble from not bleeding it properly when refilling. You could also have a loose waterpump belt. You could have put in the wrong waterpump, as the type for normal V-belts runs the opposite direction of the type for serpentine belts.
There are many more, but that is all I could immediately think of.

I just change water pump in my 2000 Ford Contour V6 and it keep running hot

It's possible you may have an air pocket in the cooling system that needs to be purged. Also, the problem could be with the thermostat. Don't run the engine too long with it overheating. You could do damage to the cylinder heads.

Change water pump

1 disconect neg.battery cable 2 drain the cooling system 3 remove air intake tube from filter housing to throttle body 4 remove top half of fan shroud 5 remove the serpentine belt 6 use a strap wrench to prevent the waterpump pulley from turning while turning the fan clutch in the counterclockwise direction. 7 remove fan and set aside 8 remove belt tensioner 9 remove hoses from water pump 10 remove 6 bolts, 3 on either side and remove the water pump. 11 remove the thermostat housing from the old pump and install on the new one. 12 re assemble in reverse order. make sure the mating surface of the engine block where the pump bolts on is clean and free of old gasket material before installing new pump and gaskets. When assembled fill cooling system, start engine and let idle untill thermostat opens and engine reaches operating temp.KEEP WATER LEVEL FULL. After a test drive recheck the coolant level, and you are done.

My 2002 ford windstar has a leak comming from the pipe thats connected to the water pump and now my belt has broken and the waterpump I believe is frozen. can a waterpump freeze from having water put into...

i think your water pump is done for. replace pump and the belt and you should be good to go. that lower pipe always rotts out on these vans. might want to replace the coolant bypass hose on top while your at it. it tends to brake around the same time as the lower pipe

Replacing serpentine belt, does the arm thats attached to the tension have to be removed?

To release the tension on the adjuster requires a wrench on the wheel bolt or there is a 3/8 square hole near the wheel that can take a 3/8 rachet.
