Question about 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora

1 Answer

When my car is on the daytime running lights, the lights blink on and off as if there's a short somewhere. Then when the car is off, the lights continue to blink on and off. The only time they stop is when I turn the lights on manually. How can I fix this problem? This just started today.

It sounds like you could be right. The more than likely is a short somewhere.

Side lights at back dill just ever so slightly when the indicator is on

could be a short in circuit somewhere because Daytime running lights don't have to be separate lights - some car manufacturers combine them with the front position lamps (side lights) in which case the daytime running lights will dim when the headlights are turned on.
If daytime running lights are located very close to indicator lights then the DRL on the appropriate side of the vehicle must turn off while the indicator is operating to avoid masking its signal.

Blown headlamps?

Check fuse box for corresponding blown fuse.

Maybe a short somewhere in the daytime running headlights control/module.

I have a 2003 chevy cavalier. headlight issue

The blinking light is telling you that you have a headlight out, if you look the service light should be coming on when the light stops blinking.
Replace the head light and all should be fine.

This is normal operation. The DTRL's turn off so on coming traffic can see your directional lights blinking. Your daytime running lights are so bright it is hard to see your turn signals during the day.

Also did you know that if you press in/out your dome override switch 3 times you can turn off your daytime running lights. After you hear a "ding" your lights should be off. Do the same to turn them back on.

At night your DTRL's are your highbeams.
