1999 Jaguar XK8 radio problem

When I turned on my radio today the display screen showed "PHONE" and nothing worked except the volume control but there was no sound (I could see the numbers change). I could not change "PHONE" to the AM/FM radio, or the CD, or the Cassette. The display stayed on even when the car was off and the key removed. The only way I could get the display to turn off was to remove the fuse. Can you help?

My car is a 2000 XK8 ..with factory radio...I assumed the problem was in the radio so I bought another Jag radio..They are both Model AJ2050W The new radio also displays PHONE all the time unless I pull the fuse.

    Thanks

That means that the Phonebox is faulty, you get the diagnostic message through the radio, but the radio is just reporting a fault on a connected device.

Hi , I found that this problem often happens on XK8 because of a defect in the way the radio communicates with the ECU (car computer). This happens on this model even if the phone is not faulty, or car phone is not present.

I report a solution from one of our Jag experts, apparently resetting the ECU will solve the problem:

"You should reboot the system, sometimes these cars hicup so to speak.

Disconnect the battery, both sides, then with it still disconnected
turn the key to crank 3-4 times (with the battery disconnected, this
just discharges all the ecu's and clears any held memorys)

Reconnect the battery (pos + first)

After that you need to relearn the windows, with the key on or the car
running send the windows all the way up, then one at a time, hold the
button to bring 1 down and continue to hold for 5 seconds once it is
all the way down, do the same for the up position, repeat on the other
side and you should be good to go."

from 1999 Jaguar XK8 radio problem.

If tis helps do not forget to leave feedback.

    Thanks

Hi gordxk,

the '99 XK8 had 3 diff OEM radios mounted in it. would you happen to have the model / part number of the radio mounted on your Jaguar? if this is an aftermarket part, please post the brand and the model so we can get further information to have the problem solved.

looking forward to your reply.

regards,

voodoo
