The auto shifter will not move without power, it is a safety feature, youll need to install a new battery or charge that one and then try again, there may be an underlying problem, power drain or maybe battery is stuffed. hope this helped.

03 chev cavalier yesterday the car wouldn't even turn over. Today nothing happened on the first crank then started on the 2nd crank no problem. later turned over not a problem at all. Any ideas??

Next time it doesn't start, move the shift lever to NEUTRAL. Then try to start. If it cranks in neutral, that would be a sign of a misadjusted cable or bad transmission park/neutral switch. Could also be a bad ign switch or other issues. If the shifter doesn't help checking for power at the starter when turning the key to start. If no power, work backwards to the IGN switch

Buick gear shifter moves freely and wont shift gears

you can shift it at transmission by hand to neutral or park and have someone inside start the car and you manually put in gear under hood and drive it to shop or garage, wherever

I own a 1996 hyundai lantra 1.6. I cant get it started. My battery's fine as i get radio and lights and all but when i turn my key to IGN nothing happens and I dont even hear the starter clicking.

Try moving the shifter back and forth while turning the key, the neutral safety switch is super sensitive, you may have bumped it. If not, try the anti theft device if it has one. Then go and check the wires, something has come loose, fuse blew, check it out.

It sounds like the shifter even though it shows its in park may not be fully ingaged Try shoving up on shifter and at same time try removing key.I believe it`s catching on the ignition lock.

Shifter locked up (% Protege

Yes under the hood on the trans is the linkage. Pull that off the trans (should be a clip) and move the lever it was on. If that is stuck it is the trans.

Van randomly will not turn over

Double check all your ground cable & + connections for clean, tight & in good shape. Sometimes just loosening them & wiggling them, then re-tightening will get better connection. Try moving shifter into neutral when this happens also, as well as turning key to start as you move shifter slowly through all gears to see if it try's even for a second to turn over. If moving shifter gets any sign of a kick over, it's probably safety neutral switch.
