Question about 1999 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

Engine shuts off while driving after 20 to 40min.

I have a 1999 Dodge Durango 5.2L. On a hot day i can drive the suv up to 20min, on a cold day i can drive it up to 40min then it shuts off, no matter where i'm at it will shut off. The only light that comes on is the "check engine" but from time to time only, it does not stay lit all the time. I'm lucky i only live like ten min from work, but if i want to take my wife and two kids some where it has to be one shot to that location, let it sit for about 4 hours or more before starting it up again.

Mr Yvescayenne, my Tem never seems to go high, it stays the same or cool. I have not had the time to mess around with the Dodge, but when i can, first thing i'm going to do is check the "Check Engine" codes and see what happends from there. I'll keep you posted on what might help me might be able to help you.

It sounds like a heat related fault to me,probably under the hood.Check all plugs, make sure the connectors are clean.Use a contact cleaner if any terminals look 'dodgy'.Please excuse the lingo,I'm Australian.

Ac blows warm air after it cool the cabin

My Durango did the same and it was a high pressure switch bad. If you stand at the front of vehicle it is located on the left side next to the radiator support by the radiator. There is a rubber flap you may have to lift to see it. Switch was a dealer item $ 40.00 I have not had no more problem out of it.
Mine would cycle on and about the time it would get cold the compressor would shut down, it may start a little later or it may be the next day before it would get cold again and then would shut down.

Front Blower

ok, missed the part about the rear ac working, the part that causes this is called the air temperature control blend door actuator motor, it is an electric motor driven gear drive that moves the plastic door inside the air ducking to mix or shut off the hot or cold air from the ac evaporator core or the heater core, you will need to replace it.

All gauges down and car wont start.

Take to Auto Zone and have the computer control module checked. Normally Auto Zone performs this service free. Or you could remove the computer modle and take it and have it checked.

I had someone back into my 1999 dodge durango and the hit the cooler it isn't leaking can I drive it without damageing the engine or trandmission.

hit the front end i presume , so yes you can drive it if it isnt leaking. just make sure nothing will fall off when you drive it. if the fins on the front are smashed you might run it hot but itll still be okay for a few miles.
