2005 dodge ram 1500 5.7 hemi check engine light on

The truck keeps bouncing back and forth as if i would be pressing the gas and letting go, pressing the gas and letting go. i never had any trouble with my truck before. do you think it could be just the fuel filter?

May be the same thing I have going on. My check engine light came on. I reset just to make sure it was serious. Now it seems like when the engine is under a strain at any speed at 1600 RPM the engine can cut out. Not every time though. If I hold it at 1600 up a slight incline it starts running rough. Above and below 1600 it's smooth. It happened when hot the other day 3 or 4 times, then the check engine light came back on. It's at the shop now.

When it cuts out it tends to be going around corners and at 1600. Not a good time to lose power steering! Starts right back up in neutral.

I have 44K meticulously maintained miles on it, if that makes a diff.

why do u feel like the fuel filter is bad?.....

can you step on the gas...and will it increase RPM's?

if not...then it is the fuel filter.....

but also can you hear the fuel pump kicking?....when you start it....

Turned out to be a cracked EGR valve. They say it's a pretty common problem.

It could be a fuel filter, vacume leak, bad injector, bad fuel presser regulator, or the ecm

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram hemi 1500 4x4. would not start.

I suspect the gas tank has some crud on the bottom that gets sucked in when level is very low and/or truck is parked on an incline.Suggest installing in-line fuel filter, let gas level get nearly empty and then check in-line filter. If there's junk in the filter, tank needs to be cleaned. Or just keep the tank a quarter full until it can be cleaned.

Flashing lighting bolt

Try the fuel filter,if not then the fuel pump maybe bad. That light will go on when the engine gets to a real low rpm, like stalling. Try that & come back if that doesn't solve it.

2005 dodge Ram 1500 truck 5.7 Hemi check engine lights comes on

Two things you want to know about the check engine light on any vehicle. One is it's an emission warning. The most common cause is a loose gas cap, make sure it clicks when you gas up. Second, is that being an emissions light, is that it'll require some test equipment to find the problem if you checked the gas cap and it's tight. You will want to do that at your friendly Dodge dealer. Why? They'll not only know what it is, it might be fixed free in the emissions warranty which has some parts that are covered longer than the vehicle's regular warranty. The shop on the corner doesn't do warranty work and they're not going to tell you if it might be covered.
