Question about 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix

COOLANT LEAK THERE IS A BRACKET WITH 2 HOSES 1FROM MY RADIATOR, SITTING IN BETWEEN THE RADIATOR AND ENGINE. THERE IS A LEAK COMING FROM THE PART.LOOKS AS THOUGH THE SEAL IS BROKEN.I DON'T KNOW THE NAME OF THE PART TO LOCATE A SEAL.

2000 Silverado leaking coolant from under the hood and I cant tell where its leaking from. Truck overheated while driving home and had problems pushing on gas to get home


You will have to check the coolant tank. If you cannot find it by looking around it, it will have to be removed. If you find that it has a leak in it, It will have to be patched or replace. Also check all of the connections to the coolant tank. It could be possible there is a leak in the connections.

HEAT NOT BLOWING HOT ENOUGH


First check coolant level and strength. If good condition most likely stuck open thermostat, just follow the upper rad hose to the engine. Remove the throttle cable bracket to access the 2 bolts holding the thermostat housing to top of engine. Make sure engine is cold before removing, you will loss a little coolant when replacing. Other causes could be plugged heater core, with engine running at operating temperature on gage. Follow the 2 heater hoses the the right side firewall (where they go thru into cab) one should be hot and the other warm (if the outlet is cold, heater core is plugged). The waterpump and cooling fan are direct drive off the engine and not usually an issue on this vehicle.

  • Turn off the engine as soon as you suspect a leak, to prevent the engine from overheating.
  • 2 Determine which radiator hose is leaking and exactly where the leak is coming from by looking for wetness.
  • 3 Purchase 1 gallon of antifreeze and the correct replacement radiator hose from your local auto-parts store or dealer. (Radiator hoses are not interchangeable. They come in specific sizes and shapes for your particular car model.)
  • 4 Wait for the engine to cool down for at least 20 minutes, before beginning any work on the cooling system.
  • 5 Place a large pan or wide bucket on the ground under the hose to catch the coolant.
  • 6 Use a screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps at both ends of the hose you are replacing.
  • 7 Remove the radiator hose by twisting and pulling where it connects to the radiator and engine. If the hose won't budge, use a utility knife to cut it off the fittings.
  • 8 Remove the hose clamps from the old radiator hose and slide them onto the new hose.
  • 9 Put the new radiator hose on. Spray the inside of the hose ends with WD-40 if the hose is hard to get on. Tighten the hose clamps.
  • 10 Refill the radiator and the coolant reservoir with a 50-50 mixture of water and antifreeze.
  • 11 "Burp the cooling system" by running the engine with the radiator cap off until the engine warms up. Keep the engine running until both the upper and lower radiator hoses feel warm (this indicates that the thermostat is open and the coolant is flowing through the entire system). Burping the cooling system allows any air bubbles to escape. Add coolant to the radiator as needed.
  • 12 Look for leaks. Inspect around the hose clamps for dampness. Tighten the hose clamps if there is any wetness.
  • 13 Put the radiator cap back on.
  • 14 Check the coolant level after driving, to ensure there are no leaks

    I am having a problem with antifreeze smell and leak. I can't see where the leak is coming from but I do see spots on the ground. It does not over heat but it does have a sent of pancake syrup once heated....

    How to change a radiator


    1988–91 Models
    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2. Properly drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
    3. Disconnect the fan motor and motor connector.
    4. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
    5. Disconnect and plug the automatic transaxle cooling lines at the radiator, if equipped.
    6. Disconnect the coolant reservoir overflow hose.
    7. Remove the radiator attaching bolts and brackets.
    8. Remove the radiator with the cooling fan attached.
    9. Remove the cooling fan and shroud from the radiator. NOTE: Check all cooling system hoses for any signs of damage, leaks or deterioration and replace if necessary. To install:
    10. Attach the cooling fan and shroud to the radiator and install the assembly.
    11. Attach the radiator bolts and brackets. Tighten the radiator bracket bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
    12. Connect the coolant reservoir overflow hose.
    13. Connect the automatic transaxle cooling lines to the radiator, if equipped.
    14. Connect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
    15. Connect the fan motor and thermo-switch wire connector.
    16. Refill the system with the proper type and quantity of coolant, check for leaks and bleed the cooling system.

    Nissan Car 350Z & Maxima 1999-06 Radiator - Removal & Installation

    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
    2. Drain the cooling system.
    3. Remove or disconnect the following:
      Negative battery cable Coolant reservoir tank and bracket Upper mounting bracket Upper radiator hose Oil cooler lines, if equipped Lower radiator hose Cooling fan and condenser fan Fan motors and shields Radiator

    To install:
    1. Install or connect the following:
      Radiator Fan motors and shields Cooling and condenser fans and torque the bolts to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm) Lower radiator hose Oil cooler lines, if equipped Upper radiator hose Upper mounting bracket Coolant reservoir tank and bracket and torque the bolt to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm) Negative battery cable
    2. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.

    4. Remove the radiator by performing the following:
      CAUTION Lifting A/C condenser should be minimum to prevent a load to A/C piping.
      With lifting and pulling radiator in a rear direction, disassemble lower mount from radiator core support center. Lift A/C condenser up and remove radiator after disengaging the fitting as front-bottom surface After removing radiator, put A/C condenser on radiator core support center to prevent a load to A/C piping, and temporarily fix it with rope or similar means

    To install:
    1. To install, reverse removal procedure.
    2. Check radiator cap for any leaks.
    3. Start and warm up engine. Check for engine coolant leaks and A/T fluid leaks.

    I have a leak coming from the upper radiator hose (someone else looked at my engine and told me this) the only problem is i have NO idea which the upper radiator hose is...some kind of diagram would be...


    you should be able to see the leak being that the radiator hose is right there around the top where you would fill or check your radiator fluid. you can also google it if you absolutely need a picture like engine specs of your year make and model.

REMOVE THROTTLE AND SHIFT CABLES FROM BRACKET.REMOVE AIR FILTER ASSEMBLY WITH MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR.REMOVE BOTTOM PORTION OF AIR FILTER HOUSING.REMOVE COOLANT HOSES FROM THROTTLE BODY.THEN REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY.YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT SMALL COOLANT HOSE TOP WATER PUMP.REMOVE SMALL BOLT THAT HOLDS METAL COOLANT LINE TO WATER PUMP.THIS LINE HAS TO BE MOVE JUST ENOUGH SO YOU CAN REMOVE THROTTLE BODY.ONCE THROTTLE BODY OUT THE WAY YOU CAN REMOVE THERMOSTAT.BESURE WHEN YOU PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER.REPLACE THROTTLE GASKET AND THE COOLANT HOSES COME OFF THROTTLE BODY BESURE TO USE OLD COOLANT HOSES MEASUREMENTS FOR NEW HOSES MEASUREMENTS MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE CURVE HOSE FOR THROTTLE BODY.
