2012 elantra, white smoke and loss of power during heavy acceleration, pinging noise in valves. Does not seem to be losing any coolant

pinging ( detonation) is from lean mixture ( white smoke)( heated oxygen sensor/s in the exhaust manifold /s), incorrect ignition timing
The lack of power could be a valve timing problem from the advance mechanism being faulty
best to have the fault codes read to determine the problem area first

Just bought a Sportster 883 2002. There's a rattle in the engine as I get higher up in rpms. Also the exhaust pops as I accelerate. Any idea as to what could be the deal. Carb maybe?

Ahhhh..the Sporty has a rattle...or is it a ping? If your popping through the exhaust, the timing could be off and running rich (Check Spark Plug for dark sooty layer) If your engine is pinging could be advanced timing... pre-ignition happens on acceleration or under a load...loose valves will make noise all the time

Do you have the CV Keihin still? Or are you running an aftermarket carburetor ? Like an S&S?

Why does my 98 expedition make a pinging noise at 25 to 35 mph then goes away

this noise is detonation. It is an uncontrolled untimed ignition from hot spots in the combustion chamber igniting an incorrect air/fuel mixture. IT is harmful if left un repaired as it has the capability of melting holes in pistons.. Run the fault codes or check /change the air/ fuel mixture settings and ignition timing of the engine . Most engines run around 10-12 degrees advanced and any more than that will help cause the problem, as the spark occurs too early and the extra pressure built up by the combustion will combust the rest of the mixture in the cylinder. Fuel quality is important so if you are using a standard grade fuel( 89-91 octane rated) fill with a premium fuel with a higher fuel octane rating . Give a miss to E- fuel mixtures

When I accelerate up a hill there is a noise that sounds like it might be fuel injectors, its a 'ticking' type noise, you only hear it when accelerating up a hill.

This noise is called pinging (preignition) this can be cause by carbon build up on pistons and valves or EGR SYSTEM NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY . and last low octane gas or engine running hotter than normal,

It sounds like it does this while under a load, like going uphills, i would have the egr system checked, being a 2000 escort i would think the computer would pickup on the egr system not working and turn engine light on. This could also be caused by bad o2 sensors setting fuel mixture at a lean condition. good day

While going 40 -50 mph and then accelerating enough to kick in the passing gear the engine makes a rattling clacking like sound, its a 4.6 ltr v-8

It sounds like the engine is "pinging" as you are speeding up. If so, this is often caused by plugged EGR passages at the intake elbow or a non-functioning EGR valve. The EGR valve allows a small amount of exhaust gasses back into the intake manifold to slow and cool the combustion down slightly to prevent the fuel from burning too fast [which we hear as a pinging sound] and it helps reduce emissions at the tailpipe. When the valve quits working or the passages get blocked the pinging sound will be heard when accelerating or at higher speeds & heavier loads. Pinging is not good for an engine and should be checked out as soon as possible. A quick test drive with a good service tech should quickly narrow down the cause of the noise. Hope this helps and good luck!

Fluttering noise in engine while accelerating at a fast rate

I believe you may be referring to 'pinging', Try a tank of premium gas and see if it stops. Check your timing, and when was it last tuned? Let me know what u find. countrycurt0
