Sounds like it has a miss. Have you tried a good tune-up?

Check owners manual or manually check to see if there is another fuel filter. Sometimes vehicles have more than one fuel filters which are overlooked until they have problems with them. Most have a filter right along the frame.

My 1999 pontiac grand am studders when i first excellerate, its fine when im goin actually going but almost everytime i go to take off it seems like it wants to die.

I would change the fuel filter and see if that would help. When you accelerate, more fuel is needed and if your fuel filter is partially clogged it will hesitate. If that doesn't fix the problem, I would move on to the fuel pump.

But if you haven't had a tune up in awhile, then I would pull a couple spark plugs to check their condition to make sure that they aren't fouling out.
