The upstream it the one closest to the engine. It will be in the exaust, either the manifold or the pipe before the cat. It will take a 7/8 wrench or on some vehicles a special 7/8 socket. Good Luck

I have a 98 neon that needs o2 sensor and egr valve fixed. Ive been quoted 340 repair bills for the work. Is that reasonable, or better to put 700 down start payments on a new car?

Carlos, Can you do any work your self new EGR valve $50.00, new O2 sensor $50.0 or less ordered through Rock auto.com, if car overall in good shape may be worth fixing. Especially if finances are tight. get a second even third estimate and this time ask them if you supply new parts O2 and EGR how much they want for labor, should not be more then 1.5 hours. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

2002 chevy express van 5.7 v8 error code PO154 Bank 2 sensor 1 oxygen sensor

That is a low signal error from the right bank upstream oxygen sensor. In most cases, it is caused by a weak oxygen sensor. Before replacing the oxygen sensor, double check fuel pressure, volume and quality. A low signal from the oxygen sensor can also be caused by a lean fuel condition.

I have 99 plymouth neon, sevice engine light keeps coming on,have replaced both upstream and downstream oxygen sensors, but the code keeps telling me there is no activty on the downstream sensor, have checked...

if it is a trouble code for the downstream oygen sensor, or cataylist below threshold, it pertains to the catalyitic converter. I would check that if i understand you correctly.

Have a oxygen sencor and dont know were to put it in at thanks....

WELL WHICH OXYGEN YOU REPLACING THE UPSTREAM OXYGEN SENSOR MOUNTED IN EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND THE DOWN STREAM OXYGEN SENSOR LOCATED IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AFTER THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER .YOU NEED A OXYGEN SENSOR SOCKET TO REMOVE IT.TO REMOVE OXYGEN SENSOR CRANK VECHICLE TO GET OXYGEN SENSOR HOT BECAUSE HARD TO REMOVE WHEN COLD.BECAREFUL DONT GET BURN ON EXHAUST MANIFOLD WHEN REMOVING OXYGEN SENSOR.AND WHEN INSTALLING NEW OXYGEN SENSOR USE ANTI SEIZE COMPOUND ON SENSOR THREADS.BUT MOST OF THE TIME NEW SENSOR WILL HAVE ANTI SEIZE COMPOUND ON IT.

Need a new po135 - 02 heater circuit

UPSTREAM OXYGEN SENSOR
The oxygen sensor is installed in the exhaust manifold Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor - 2.4L. or Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor - 3.0L. or Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor - 3.3/3.8L .

CAUTION: Do not pull on the oxygen sensor wire when unplugging the electrical connector.

WARNING: THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER MAY BE EXTREMELY HOT. USE CARE WHEN SERVICING THE OXYGEN SENSOR.

REMOVAL
Raise and support vehicle.
Unplug oxygen sensor electrical connector.
Use a socket such as Snap-On YA8875 or equivalent to remove sensor.
When the sensor is removed, the exhaust manifold threads must be cleaned with an 18 mm X 1.5 + 6E tap. If using original sensor, coat the threads with Loctite 771-64 anti-seize compound or equivalent.
INSTALLATION
Reverse removal procedure to install a new sensor
New sensors are packaged with compound on the threads and no additional compound is required. The sensor must be tightened to 27 N·m (20 ft. lbs.) torque

Had local part store pull code. O2S heater CKT malfunction 1/1

This fault indicates a problem in the oxygen sensor heater circuit, bank 1 sensor 1.
Your vehicle is equiped with four oxygen sensors total. Two upstream and two after the catalytic conveter that monitor emissions and converter effeciency. The front sensor on the left (drivers side) bank requires replacement. The heaters are used to bring the sensor up to operating temperature sooner.

1996 Neon is blowing black smoke from the exhaust.

If good, clean fuel, good spark etc. 171 is lean mixture according to my sources.. Thus I'd say if engine is being told from O2 sensor that mixture is lean, that would explain all the extra fuel getting ( dumped ) fed to engine. I guess i"d start by changing O2 sensor. (Oxygen sensor.) If it has 2, do the one upstream, closest to engine on exhaust manifold or pipe.
