Question about 2000 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

When I try starting my 2000 Jeep Wrangler I hear a clicking noise but that is all. I was told to tap on the starter solenoid while turning the key but I don't know where the solenoid is located. Can yo tell me where this is located?

The starter solenoid is on top of the starter, the starter is on the bottom rear of engine, the problem u are discribing is a defective starter solenoid, with this type of starter I doubt that tapping on it will make the truck start, u will need to replace the starter solenoid.

Where is the neutral safety switch located on my 2008 Jeep wrangler?

Sounds like you're starting at the expensive end and working backwards! First, check your battery, make sure it has a good charge. Second step is the starter solenoid. Some designs have external solenoids, some are internal. Third is the starter itself. Once you are sure all that stuff is good, THEN it's time to start looking for the neutral safety switch.

The check engine light is meaningless when the engine is not running.

Wont turn over

The starter is most likely the problem, tap on the starter lightly with a hammer while trying to start the engine, dont get run over doing this it will take two people,if the engine starts, the starter needs replacing.

2000 jeep wrangler - starts and then will die while driving. Battery replaced, starter replaced, alternator checks out okay. Could it be the solenoid?

The solenoid causes the starter to engage when the ignition switch is turned to start. If the car starts, the solenoid is probably okay.

Sounds more like a fuel delivery problem.

2006 Jeep Wrangler won't start

First, make sure you can turn the engine by hand. If you can't then the starter can't turn it either. Have someone else turn the key and look for the source of the click...may be a relay. Go over the starting circuit with a volt meter. Check for power at the starter main terminal and then with the key turned to "start" check for power at the trigger terminal on the starter. Check battery voltage and check relay operation.
You have a neutral safety switch on the transmission if its an automatic and a clutch switch if it's a stick. Check them as well. Make sure battery grounding on fender and block are also clean and secure.

If you can jump starter, the starter solenoid has failed. Either change solenoid or starter&solenoid as unit & you should be back to normal!

98 jeepwrangler won't start

This is basic, but first off, try to shift it into neutral, and try to start it. It is easy for the linkage to get out of adjustment, where it thinks the jeep is in gear. If that does not work, make sure you have battery power to the ignition and starter.
