There should by a small pully (called a tentioner) under the alternator pully, get a wrench that fits the nut in the middle and turn it counter clockwise this will loosen the belt to get it around the other pully. Ps. this is easier with two people, one to release tention and one to put the belt on.

My compressor is bad on my 2000 pontiac sunfire 2.4, i am wanting to bypass the belt with a new (smaller belt) can u please tell me what size i will need

Hi,

What you are looking for is called an 'air conditioner compressor bypass pulley'. Most chain auto parts stores have them in stock.

All you do is install the bypass pulley and use a shorter belt.

The only downside is the cost of $25-$40. That's about one-third the cost of a remanufactured unit and the labor is compatible.

All the best

When idling in gear with the air conditioner on, there are what feels like misfires. I have had the spark plugs and wires replaced and the Injector O rings replaced. Do you have any suggestions.

too much gas in AC system ,have it re gassed on a proper machine that will empty system and weigh what comes out ,it should about 700 grms unless it has two units one in the rear then its about a kilo of gas

Air conditioner belt replacement 1998 Plymouth Voyager

There are two belts under your hood, correct?
The long one is the serpentine belt.
The smaller one, mounted on 3 pulleys in triangular shape is the AC belt.
The AC belt must be removed before the serpentine can come off.
At the top of the triangle is a small bracket with a hex screw. This is called a jack screw. The tread of the screw is connected to inside of the top pulley and holds it in place. When loosened, the jack screw lowers the pulley so the AC belt loosens. If the pulley become detached from the jackscrew, just lift pulley back by hand to reconnect to jackscrew, and tighten screw to re-thread. Not a big deal.

Replacing 2000 dodge caravan timing belt - how do

rotate crankshaft in a clockwise direction until both timing marks are aligned together on both camshaft gears and the crankshaft timing mark aligns with mark on the block just behind the crankshaft gear. you may need to rotate the crankshaft gear several times before you can get all the timing marks to align. once you have done this then insert a allen wrench in the hole on the belt tensioner and a small drill bit or a small allen wrench in the smaller hole. take the largr allen wrench and apply pressure counterclockwise until the small drill bit or allen wrench slides into locking hole to hold the belt tensioner in place. install belt and release the tensioner. (note: before starting work on engine remove the negative cable from battery).

Air conditioner in 2000 Dodge Caravan Needs to be Replaced

Cost of repair will depend on which component of the AC system needs repair/replacement. There are several components to the system, with each component costing different amounts and each requiring different amounts of labor to repair or replace.
But, how do you know there is no refrigerant left in the system? Have you had the system charged recently and it leaked out?
