Question about 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
The car is shifting hard---almost like a surge forward. The check engine light is on AND the no traction control light. I just had it in the shop and the replaced air flow sensor yesterday and today the car was back doing its old tricks. It is a 2006 Malibu Maxx ss hatchback with 38,500 miles.
Any ideas of what is causing this?
There is no dip stick. Its most likely not the fluid. These malibu's use the first generation GM LAN system. Check the data cord comming from the transmission near the mechanical shifting linkage. Alot of these shifting issues and errors are from a break in the wiring causing bad data to be sent/rvcd to/from the computer control module- these cars are electronically controled shifted, not mechanical.

Going through the same thing with mine since I bought it brand new w/ 27 miles and thats not thousand. Any answers would be huge to help out my good ol' mrgoodwrenches who have no idea what is going on. So far all of the above have been done including the tranny check and fluidchange and pressure flush, the airflow sensors, the electronic throttlebody unit, the left and right O2 sensors, and now the electronic fuel injectors. Light is still coming on.

I think that acombination of these two above would be worth checking into. Solution #2 will have you looking for a while tho because the malibu does not have a dipstick for the transmission. This can only be checked under the car(better have a lift) you have to take out the filler plug and fluid should just be running out slightly.

I think that you should check the transmission fluid refer to the owners manuel for the location of the dipstick or you can take it in to the garage if you want
