Check that your Radiator fan is operating. The reason that it heats up when stopped is that there is no air flow thru the radiator. When the car is moving there is air flowing thru the radiator (the car is basically cutting thru the air).

How do I clean a stopped up water jacket in my 96 Honda accord?

If it isn't leaking externally, then it has to be internal, most likely a blown headgasket.

How do you get the front defrost to work

is it blowing hot air? do you have it on recirculate? recirculate will stop it from defrosting if the AC is not charged and functioning since the compressor running on defrost removes humidity.

1996 Honda Accord. Revs like crazy when I idle even for a second. Starts first crank, never stalls. Very quiet when moving. If the car has a cooling fan, then the fan comes on after I back up and then...

hi check the coolant level it may have dropped slighly causing the idle cotrol valve to play up
you may have to bleed the cooling system once you have done this there is a bleed nipple near the distributer undo this while the engine is running and the heater is switched to hot but the blower fan
is off bleed out some coolant until the air stops bubbling out if this doesnt work you may need a new idle control valve situated behind the inlet manifold near the firewall

My wife honda Accord 1996 have the same problem, it was the hose from the radiator to the engine leaking when the pressure goes up after a while. a new hose fixed the problem.

I have a 1996 Honda civic, it spits out water at the radiator after running for 10 minutes. What can I do?

If the radiator is leaking, put a bottle of radiator stop leak in it,fill it up the rest of the way with water, tighten cap, and run in idle for 15 to 30 minutes. If the leak is severe or one bottle doesn't work, use two bottles of stop leak and run for 35 minutes.

If it's the radiator cap that's leaking, replace the cap with a new one. Also check to make sure there are no loose cooling hoses.

Safety first: Use extreme caution to never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot, severe burns from escaping hot water could result.

I have a 1996 Honda Accord that ran hot, plug wire tips melted

it is really not good to run that hot, metal temper fails...

your description sounds like you will need to replace the wires, do it one at a time and that is the easiest way to not mix anything up..

After you get it going, measure how many quarts of oil you burn in how many miles, you may have killed the engine..

YOUR ENGINE IS RUNNING HOT.IF FAN KEEP RUNNING WHEN ENGINE IS OFF.CHECK COOLANT MAKE SURE ITS NOT LOW. Temp runs hot when at redlight but goes down when i excell

Electric fan on radiator is goofing off. chk if it comes on at all but watching gauge and listening for fan start uo just above operating trmp. Fan helps cool under 35 mph. Forced air cools over 35 mph.

Engine gets hot

There are 3 potential problems:
--faulty thermostat. If it is not opening all the way by the time the engine reaches 160-180 deg F...then coolant is not flowing enough.
--partially blocked radiator caused by build up of rust over the years if never flushed as regular maintenance.
--Insufficient coolant to water ratio. Should be at least 30% or more coolant in the radiator.
--Or combination of above.
Hope this helps.
