Don't just change just the thermostat... change the sensor located in the thermostat housing (if your engine is overheating). The whole works is located inside the timing cover. Sockets: You'll need a 10mm for the timing cover and the 3 bolts on the thermostat cover, and an 8mm for the sensor harness bolts. Then you'll need a 3/4 open end wrench for the sensor.
Still think ot vacuum related .This will push the revs up sky high .Get a good cigar and pulloff a vacum pipe .Take a good puff on the cigar now puff the emoke down the vaccum pipe .Now do you know what your looking for .You got it ,,, smoke ,,,,than you have found the leak.Thats if you have one ..Can you get a obd check it will tell you what it is ..Thermostat removal wont change the engine revs

Location. its located somewhere behind the alternater. so you must romove alternator. (Ac Compressor removal is optional)
1. Disconnect Battery Cable,
2. Raise the car on Hoist Or Jack up
3. Drain Coolant from Radiator
4. Remove Right Front Wheel and Splash Shields
5. Remove Belt and Tensioner
6.Remove Dip Stick Bolt + remove Dip Stick tube. ( cover dip stick hole so that coolant dosunt get in to oil pan) or (Do an oil change if coolant gets in to oil pan)
7. Remove Lower Alternator Bolt
8. Remove Uper Alternator Bolts (Access from the Hood).
9. Remove All the Connections to the Alternator and Ac.
11. Remove Thermostat housing bolts
12. Remove thermostat
to installl Reverse the procedure and at the end open the bleeder valve and pour in coolant slowly in to the reservoir
add coolant and bleed the air out.
let the thermostat valve open and cerculate coolant untill Rad cooling fan cycles.
Hi, yes, the heater core can be damaged while replacing the clutch, most likely the mechanic was trying to disconnect the hoses attached to the heater core and the core cracked at the solder on the outlet. I bought a reco unit for $300au but to fit it takes between 8 and 12 hours as the entire dashboard has to be removed to access it.

It depends on whether you have a 5 or 6 cylinder engine. On the 6 it's located under the timing belt cover. On the 5 it's located just in front of and to the left of the fuel injector rail. If you haven't already, register (it's free) at autozone.com. Once you've done that, look up your vehicle and then search for a thermostat. Click on the thermostat that best fits your needs and look to the right. There will be a repair manual link for step by step instructions on how to remove and install the thermostat.
FIRST OF ALL YOU NEED A HAYNES OR CHILTON REPAIR MANUAL.IT WILL TELL YOU HOW TO GET TO HEATER CORE.AND YOU NEED TOOL NO.155 8957 DISCONNECT THE HEATER HOSES FROM HEATER CORE.AND YOU NEED A TORX 20 SCREW DRIVER TO REMOVE SOUND PROOFING PANEL TO DASHBOARD SCREWS.
It's not hard, just a bit messy. Follow the top hose that runs from the radiator to the engine. Where it stops is the location of the thermostat. You will need to drain the coolant out of the radiator before you begin taking things apart. Be prepared to replace the coolant with new coolant mixed 50-50 with water when you are done. Go to the parts store and get a new thermostat for that year/engine/model combination. Remove the hose from the thermostat housing, remove the housing and pull the thermostat out. Note how the spring on the thermostat faces. Clear out any gasket material that remains with a soft scraper -don't damage the area where the housing goes or it will leak. Put the gasket and thermostat in, put the housing back on and remember not to over-torque the bolts or when the engine gets hot bad things will happen. Replace the hose (is it time for a new one anyway?) and then refill the cooling system with antifreeze. Start the car and check for leaks.
