I am not confident that your recommended supplier will be able to solve my problem. I do not require replacement glass but only the gas struts that support the glass. Failing this, I am sure that I can locate these parts myself if only I had the necessary PART NUMBER/S.

Please treat this request with the respect it deserves because as previously explaine this is for a 'Japan only' vehicle otherwise the problem would not exist!

    Many thanks

I need to get a part number to be able to order a repalacement pair of gas struts for the rear glass tailgate of my Japan Specification RHD pre 1998 Isuzu MU Wizard Auto 4 door 3100cc Turbo Diesel SUV. The UK, USA Australian and other European Dealerships cannot help because this model wasn't intended for export. Please please help because the regular impact of this glass on my head is becoming tiresome! Please note: Previous solutions offered were totally off-key. a) I do not require any glass & b) the site proposed will only operate with an Australian postcode! I am certain that the only valid information that you can give to me must be obtained only from a source from within Japan. I repeat...my vehicle is offically unknown in any market other than Japan.

  • mpittas May 16, 2009

Having removed one of the gas struts I have discovered that the strut manufacturer is KYB (KAYABA) and the left hand unit bears the manufacturer's serial number 4J 13 G495. My attempts to contact KYB in Japan (or is it China) have all been unsuccessful. We may be getting somewhere at last...please help.

  • mpittas May 19, 2009

This link is unsuitable. a) This is a USA site. As previously explained, my vehicle is unknown in that market...anyway what would a 'RHD only' model be doing in the States? b) Their 'pop-ups' do not list my vehicle so their isnt much point in dealing with them.

U don't need a factory part number, u just need to measure the length of the gas charged support, then do a net search for a source based on that lenght.

I tried searching for the part number of the gas struts for your 1998 Isuzu MU7 but it's really hard to find it.

Please check this link. It consists of several gas struts with part numbers:

http://hongkong01.rs-online.com/mobile/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=retrieveTfg&Ne=4294960157&N=4294857859

I believe that one of them is compatible with your vehicle.

Have a great day!

What are the thingys that the rear window hydraulic lifts of a 98 honda passport snap into??

I have no experience of the model but the pressurised gas struts used for tailgate lifting and similar usually snap onto small ball joints and then a safety device is engaged. Sometimes this is an integrated spring clip and sometimes a security wire clip...

The rear latch does not open easy and doesn;t stay up. Whats wrong?

There should be two hydraulic struts - one on either side of the hatch/tailgate. If these struts have failed, the hatch/talgate will not stay open. Also, since these struts are compressed when the hatch/tailgate is closed, they provide positive lifting pressure when you unlock the hatch, pushing it away slightly from the latching mechanism. Replace the struts, and you should be all set.

Rear hatch will not open sound like the motor works but will not relase latch

there's a plastic actuator inside the tailgate that probably broke or at least came loose. You have to crawl into the back and release it. I ended up having to cut a little piece of carpet in the middle on the top of the tailgate area. Right where it fastens. You can manually release the glass with a screwdriver at that point. To replace the actuator, you need to take off the entire tailgate trim and metal underneath that to get to it. It sounds like a pain but trust me, not having the back glass be able to open or the tailgate area is much worse. It takes about 45 minutes to fix. The actuators are less than $10

How to replace liftgate support rod fro 2005 jeep grande cherokee

Hi ... You need two people, two new gas struts a small screw driver and a thirteen mill open end spanner.....
Change one at a time with the second person supporting the tailgate, dependant on what type is fitted the struts will have a metal "c" clip that needs to be removed at both ends on the ball joint sockets, prise the clips out and remove the strut, and replace in reverse order.... if you have the struts with the ball and sockets at each end you need to support the tailgate with your by now long suffering partnre and undo the nut and socket in the body and tailgate.... they, once loosened will come out easily..... just make sure that when refitting you dont cross threads... repeat same on the other side and then give friend a cold beer..... hope this helps..... If the strut has just a ball socket and the clip, take a small flathead screw driver and pick the clip up. If it comes off, just slide it back over when you get the strut in place. The clip just holds it in place during use. No big deal and not a stupid question....cautious!

Rear Window Glass won't Release

Followed owners manual for emergency opening of rear window glass.
Removed upholstery panel from the tailgate once glass was opened. Found a broke (plastic) actuator arm on the actuating motor.
Ordered new one for replacement.
