Question about 1987 Chevrolet Nova
Had similar problem with 81 honda, maybe key ok for accessories, but too worn for starting, try all postings but use your best least worn key and copy it, use copy for everyday use, save best key in safe place

Ok a few things to check, there is a thin wire that runs to your starter motor (chek to see if it connected. there is also a big fat usually red or black coated wire that is main power from battery), the thin wire is known as the excita wire it transports the signal from the ign. barrel, if you turn the key as if to start the car and there is power to that wire then your starter motor solonoid and possibly the starter motor in its entirity is stuffed. on the otherhand if there is no power to that wire there is a starter relay and it should be in your main fuse box, this may be faulty, if none of these work go back to the loom behind the ignition barrel and see if the barrel itself is faulty, hope i have been of some help
