Question about 2001 Ford Focus

1 Answer

Have error code 401 - insufficient airflow Focus acts like it is missing when increasing speed. Has "burned oil smell" after driving for a while. Computer checker shows code 401 in error - possibly egr valve.

    Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve
It takes exhaust gases from your exhaust manifold and puts them back into your intake. It helps lower the combustion temperature, which in turn reduces nitrous oxide emissions.
If it's stuck open, and is letting too much exhaust back inside your engine, then your engine will run like ****, because the exhaust gases are suffocating the air/fuel mixture.
If it's stuck closed, then your car will run fine, but you'll be putting out too much nitrous oxide.
Either way, it should throw a code.
Clean it and replace the gasket, if it still runs poorly, then replace it.

    Solutions-
    1. replace egr $120
    2. replace solenoid $50
    3. make sure no vacuum hoses are blocked. $ negligible
Got those answers after doing some research for you. Hope one helps.

99 Grand Am Smoke Exhaust

I'm sorry to say your engine may be cooked.
Since you are adding both oil and coolant, and the color of the smoke is gray or white, you have the signs of the engine burning coolant.
The common cause is a leaking head gasket.

Engine miss

That covers just about everything. I wonder what the burn smell is -
Code 301 is for a miss on cylinder one.
You may need to have someone use a scanner to watch the sensors and try to troubleshoot it that way.

You didn't specify where you put the seafoam (oil, gas tank, vacuum lines etc) It's very possible that the fuel filter needs changing and the spark plugs may very well be fouled. After seafoaming a car it's a good idea to really open it up to burn off the foam and residue.

Automatik trans speed works some times, the engine is ok

That can be something wrong with the oil , how long time since you change oil and filter on the transmisjon. A other fault could bee the clutch ore brake band inside the transmisjon. If you smell at the oil , when you tacke up the oil stick , the color on the oil shall bee red , if the color been brown and the smell are smell of burning , the are something wrong with the clutch.
