1989 honda accord lxi fi oil light

I have 137,000 mi. this started a few days ago, when at idle the oil light started to flicker. now it starts to flicker at idle and then stays on even at low rpm driving. at around 2200 rpm the light goes out. is this a bad oil pump or could it be something else. i had this problem about 6 months ago but it went away after a couple of days. thanks for your help.

Sounds like there is an oil pressure problem. Now this can be due to several factors. 1. low oil level in car
2. bad oil pump
3.bad oil pressure switch /sending unit
4. last but not least check oil filter and make sure its not clogged.
worn engine main/connecting rod bearings.
have pressure checked with a manual guage at oil pressure switch for the correct pressure. If that's good then the switch is bad and problem solved.
if it low then you will have to check pump and bearings. Contact if you need more help and thanks for using FIX YA

Honda 1989 Accord Lxi , 4 door rpm increases and decreases like some one playing with the accelerator after it warms up. it will not do it while in gear so it drives fine, until you go park then the...

This is common on the older hondas, the idle goes up and down, this is caused by a couple of things, you may have low coolant or a bad idle air control valve, the last thing it may be is the power steering preasure switch, this switch is the most common, when you turn the wheel the switch is actived to raise the idle . sometimes that switch shorts out and cause the problem you are having, this switch is located on the powersteering hose, unplug the connector and if the idle stops going crazy then thats the problem.

My 89 honda accord lxi with the 2.0 won't idle correctly, it idles up and down and when you first start it up in the morning it idles about 2500 rpm or higher.

air in the IACV (idle air control valve) coolant line - air bubbles in the coolant will confuse the iacv into incorrect idle settings.....even when hot, and a fault in this unit will do the same thing, very very common fault in a honda.

89 Accord LXI Idle problems

It's fuel infected and it has a vacuum leak, most likely a PCV valve that is stuck open, I've seen a few now. Replace the PCV valve 1st, if that doesn't fix it, start looking for a hose that has come off.
