Radiator fan dose not work

I have replaced the Radiator fan after an accident, and the fan does not start working when the engine is hot.
I have supplied direct voltage to the relay contact and the fan works, but in a normal connection it dose not work,
Please help me to figure out where is the theremostat located and how it activate the fan's relay.
Many thanks for your help and support.

Hi i am Vortash can I ask when you changed the fan as a result of your impact did you replace the radiator also and if so is there a sensor on it ( there sometimes is ) if so and the radiator was obtained from a breakers yard ( where I get all My spares 98% cheaper lol ) it may be stuck due to rust or damage and should be replaced .. The Temperature sender is usually on the thermostat housing probably attached to the top pipe of the radiator but not allways .. it may be a direct bi- metal strip type or normally open contact that closes at heat turning on the fan .. or a resistance type that actuates the fan through the ECm manager .If you go to the Haynes website you will be able to download a manual from there to check out all your problems .. hope this helps you and good luck Regards Vortash

This does not sound like a theremostate prblem but rather like the heat censor. You can locate this either on the rediator or the engine block (a small round part with one connecting wire.). Just replace the censor and the problem should be solved.

Before you go to the censor just chek the fuse.(usely under the steering on the right.)

Hi, i replace the thermostat and water pump flashed the radiator has coolant but still overheating, what else could it be its golf 4 tdi diesel 2002. Thank you

Radiator may have rust/salt deposits inside, if that is case its cheaper and better to change the radiator. Also for future don't use normal tap water in radiator, use a coolant + ph balanced water meant for radiators to reduce salt buildup inside radiator.

Also check the radiator fan is working ok and rotating in the right direction, sucking cool air inside not blowing out hot engine air to the radiator. Some electric fans can have wires mixed up so they start in the wrong direction. (make sure fan is sucking cool air outside towards the engine).

In some cars, radiator fan has a top cover that stops hot engine air getting sucked by the fan, if your car has it, make sure it is fitted properly and is in good order.

Some cars have a fan fitted on the AC condenser, make sure this fan is working as well.

I have change the sensor and gauge and still my car temp. gauge moves to the hot zone right away. what elese can it be. I even check the relay is good.

Try disconnecting the sensor. then turn on the ignition switch and see what the guage dose. If it still goes to the top, chances are there is a short in the wiring. If it does nothing, chances are you have a defective sensor.

Mitsubishi l200 2.5 DiD 2007 74000 miles, bubbling in header tank, over heating and pushing water back to the header tank, heater is still blowing hot air!! So dont think its the thermostat, am I more...

There are other things to test before we have the engine spread all over the yard. Cooling fan operation. Yes the thermostat hot air in heater just means hot water. start with a cold engine then start and run at a high idle if heats quickly upper radiator hose hot lower cold good but reverse no flow. remove and test thermostat (not replace) put on stove boil water and watch it open once center piece is moving check with thermometer it should agree with stamp number on thermostat. if good check for slipping fan belt. check for air restrictions on radiator and water flow.

How can i troubleshoot engine over heating

If the Fan is not working, check the radiator fan belt, (in some cars like Benz s500 yr 2000, it has it's own belt for sure), it might have been broken , check the fuse also, take your time to look on the connecting wires to make sure none is cut, that must solve the problem, your radiator must fan must be working.

I have oldsmobile alero 1999, problem is that the engineer idles after running for an hour or when engine is getting hot

SOUND LIKE ENGINE COOLANT FANS NOT RUNNING.CHECK TO SEE IF COOLANT FANS RUNNING WHEN ENGINE START OVERHEATING.IF NO CHECK COOLANT FANS FUSE AND RELAYS.IF ALL IS GOOD.HOTWIRE COOLANT FANS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE WORKING.IF NO REPLACE FAN MOTOR.IF FAN RUN WHEN YOU HOT WIRE IT.THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY ARE THE PCM FAULTY YOU CAN USE A SCANNER TO CHECK THEM FOR FAULT CODE.IF EVERYTHING GOOD SO FAR.REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP FLUSH ENGINE BLOCK AND RADIATOR.CHECK RADIATOR AND CONDENSOR AIR CORES MAKE THEY NOT STOPPED UP WITH LEAVES AND OTHER DEBRIS THAT WILL BLOCK OFF AIR FLOW THROUGH THE FRONT GRILLE RADIATOR CORES.ALSO CHECK WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF ITS LEAKING WATER PUMP NEEDS REPLACING.

Radiator fan on my 1994 toyota camry

there are actually 3 temp sensors. 1 is on the top of the engine that goes to temp gauge in dash has 1 wire. next to it is a 3 wire sensor for engine control and choke. on the bottom of the radiator next to the hose is a 2 wire sensor. loosen all 3 but leave connected. get engine hot past halfway point on dash gauge. with ac off disconnect 1 sensor at time. start with 2 wire under radiator. it takes the most abuse. fan will come on when you disconnect broken sensor. 2sensor must agree for fan to stay on till engine cools when turned off. note this is solution i used after verifying fuses, fuseable links and relays worked.WOO HOO! make sure you check both the fuse box under hood and fuse boxleft side of steering wheel my ECU fuse was inside my bros was outside.ECU B on my car goes to nothing and is under hood. Had it confused with ECU on wiring diagram.DOH!
