1998 Volvo V70 ignition switch turn 360 degrees

My 98 Volvo V70 has a problem with the ignition switch. Sometimes (more often than not) the key will turn completely around without starting. If I move the locked steering wheel slightly, I can get it to find the right position and ignition works properly. Is this a problem with the ignition switch itself or the steering column lock?

Thanks for the response. How or what causes the misalignment?

Quick response regarding problem. Generally answered my question as to whether it was lock or steering column related. Thanks.

This is the problem with the ignition switch.
The lock cylinder into which the key is inserted, and the electronic switch that sits just behind the lock cylinder are not in proper alignment with each other.
Probably before you plan to replace the switch you can take the switch of and put it back in, many a times that will fix the alignment issue.

Thanks
Kevin

I have a 2002 Volvo v70, 2.4t . The signal light on the right side stay on at all the time

I would think it is a short in the turn signal switch but I wonder how it is getting power with the key switch off.
I would unplug the switch and see if the lights go off. Could also be a short in the hazard switch.

Volvo V70 xc AWD '98 - fuel filter change

Brandonlo168,

The fuel filter can be located under the carpeted cargo storage floor at the rear of the wagon. Remove the four 10mm bolts, remove the cover. You will then see a removeable plate to the right just behind the rear passenger seat. Fuel filter can be seen through hole in hole. Replaced from underneath wagon. Be sure to make sure lines are fully inserted onto filter. Check for leaks. No smoking, extinguisher handy. Note arrow on filter for correct fuel flow.

Alarm sounds everytime key removed from ignition?

There is a switch either in or on the driver door that turns on the interior lights and tells the module the door is open and the key is still in the ignition, this sounds the alarm, check all the doors and make sure they turn the interior lights on and off when the doors are opened and closed.
