Question about 2000 Mazda 626
I had a similar problem with a second-hand Mazda2, was intermittent too so the seller kept telling me it was OK. Eventually turned out to be a loose connection with the fob, I bought another off eBay and billed the garage for it, found instructions for programming it online and it's worked ever since.

Ok so when you press the luck button on the fob does it make a clicking noise? if so does the unlock button sound the same? if pressing the two buttons sounds different then the key-fob switch is faulty. if they sound the same its more than likely the car is at fault if you can open the car manually with a key check all the fuses it could be as simple as that. regards John
