The
orvis grand cherokee.97 the heater doet not work fine, its dead, only cold air

  1. so??? is the rad hose at 180F+
  2. are both core heater hoses at firewall at 180F.
  3. is one hose cold. (core is packed or this path.... is...)
  4. ok both hoses hot, so the damper is wrong.
  5. did you read the FSM on this> ? it has a self test. do that yet?
  6. Ive posted it here 100 times. here goes again.
  7. The ZJ , FSM covers it fully.. next.
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service

do you have the advance climate controls option.
that is key to all tests.
The AZC or climate controls must detect a need for heat.
automatic zone controls, or the like.. (not manual controls option)
the controller is called ATC.
page 24-12 starts heater testing in the FSM.
look there, now.?
if outside is 70F then dash heat will be 147F min. <<< spec,
page 12 tells you the hose tests. clear as day.
same page states, the manual system uses vacuum dampers.
is it?
if not its auto option.
if it is auto there is an LCD display above, temp control
and will show ER if there are errors
page 14 shows how to do the tests.
page 15 shows how to run the HVAC diagnostic, with no special tools.
(press 2 buttons at once , magic)
its all there to read .....
but many here hate books, so,,,, be that as it may be....
happy guessing....

You can remove the glovebox, push the passenger seat back and with a flashlight look at the end of the shaft of the blend door motor as you adjust it from cold to hot. If the shaft doesn't have 90 degrees or so of movement then: 1) the blend door itself could be blocked by an obstruction, 2) if it doesn't turn at all then the circuitry has detected that the shaft has broken and it won't engage the motor or 3) it's unlikely but the motor could be burned out. The usual case is that the shaft has broken on the flimsy blend door, the circuitry has detected the failure and that it simply refuses to rotate anymore = stuck with cold air.

    now lets do physics.
    heat exchangers 101

hot water must flow fully thru the core.
and actually be hot water not 150F. 180F+ is correct.(tools called pyro guns work best)

the blower air must flow thru the core.
if the damper blocks this path, there will be no heat.
that is all you need, to know besides how to do simple tests. (ask how)

we cant touch the core but we can touch the core hoses. the fsm correctly states.
if both hose are hot , good.
if one is tad less, that is ok.
if one is super cold , that is core block.
    case in point
    180F on input hose.
here are 2 pyro gun readings on 70F day.
    Heater hose top 156 (input)
Heater hose bottom, 147 (output 10f drop because fan is on and heat on... "exchanging heat it is......:")

    the read top is 180f.
the lower 156 is the hose temp only, the pyro gun can only read rubber. temp
when you see 156f, it will be much hotter inside.
the themostat housing will read 180F if the stat is 180F . if housing is metal.
the metal will reach full 180F.

there you go , real numbers.
    no bs.

SOURCE: Heater blows cold air

If the "Heater In Hose" gets hot, and the "Heater Out Hose" does not get hot, than either the Control Valve is sticking closed, or your heater core is plugged up with ****!

Have you used "Barrs Leak" or a simular product for a radiator leak? That will sometimes clog the heater core.

I have a 1993 Grand Cherokee, which "Normally" throws very hot air out of the heater, but lately sometimes it only throws warm air, till I make my first stop, than it gets hot.....all because the heat control valve is hanging up.

Low water in the radiator will also cause a heater to not work.....if the water level is too low to circulate to the heater.

SOURCE: Heater problems on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Please Help!!

THis is a know problem with Jeep GC. If only one side is cold and the other is hot and there are no controls error codes. It is likely a broken temperature blend door on the faulty side (w/ dual controls). Dealer charges a lot to fix ~$800. There is a kit and instructions sold on EBAY to replace the part for $100. Seller claims that a relative novice can fix w/o removing the entire dash board as the dealer does. Has sold hundreds of kits....people seem satisfied....you may check it out. Search Heater Blend Door Jeep on ebay. Replacement parts are aluminum instead of OEM plastic.

Self Diagnostics on HVAC system. Jeep GC has built in diagnostics and will return error codes on the temp display if it is otherwise. Simple to display.
1) Press A/C and Recir button simutaneously
2) Rotate driver temp control knob clockwise then release buttons
3) If no controls error a code of "0" or "00" will be returned.
4) Error codes listings can be found on-line if anything but zero

Dealers charge $45 to run the same check

Why is my 06 Jeep Commander still overheating and blowing out cold air

For the heating blowing cold
Air Lock
Low Coolant Level
Blend Door Actuators not working
Water valve not opening, some are electrically operated (fuse?).

For overheating
Low Coolant level
Air lock
New thermostat faulty
Radiator blocked
Cooling fan not running

When you put in a new thermostat, and refill the system, you have to burp the air out of it. There are videos online, but you fill the system by the radiator (are opposed to the filler bottle) and turn the heater on full to fully open the valve. Then you run the engine and keep topping it up, occasionally squeezing the bottom radiator hose. When the cooling fan kicks in, you know it is up to full running temperature. Rev the engine a few times, and turn off. Then top up one last time and put the radiator filler cap back on. Then top up the coolant reservoir to the line and put the top back on that. All done!

Mitsubishi l200 2.5 DiD 2007 74000 miles, bubbling in header tank, over heating and pushing water back to the header tank, heater is still blowing hot air!! So dont think its the thermostat, am I more...

There are other things to test before we have the engine spread all over the yard. Cooling fan operation. Yes the thermostat hot air in heater just means hot water. start with a cold engine then start and run at a high idle if heats quickly upper radiator hose hot lower cold good but reverse no flow. remove and test thermostat (not replace) put on stove boil water and watch it open once center piece is moving check with thermometer it should agree with stamp number on thermostat. if good check for slipping fan belt. check for air restrictions on radiator and water flow.

2008 V6 3.9 pontiac montana still over heating

Hi, Yes you have an air lock in your system, you may get this sorted by 1/. Removing one of the cooling hoses & try to blow with air.
2/. Drain all the system then put your heater on inside the vehicle & have the engine running & refill the system Start to do this from a cold engine. Please leave me feed back: Malcolm Campbell, Thanks.

2005 jeep liberty blows cold air through the heater.

could be the thermostat if it was just stating to go bad, could also be a vacume problem not letting the door for the ac/heat close all the way for a few min.and if its really cold out like below 35,then its going to take longer to warm up,my jeep takes like around 20 min at idle to warm up.yours could be a case of over cooling in cold weather too ie(electric fans on before it warms up)that would be the thermostatic sensor.

Would the heater control valve malfunctioning make the engine overheat blowing hot air out the heater one moment, then not blowing the hot air, temp gage spikes 225 plus. The motor takes awhile to heat up...

Heater control valve malfunction will not cause engine to overheat unless coolant is leaking externally...Overheating going down the road can be the result of a few different things...Partly clogged radiator...Insufficient air flow due to possible fan problem...External coolant leak...Make sure fans are operting properly and have cooling system pressure tested for leaks...Gaining and losing heat on the inside of the vehicle usually means system is low on coolant but you must find out where coolant is going

My heater fan turns on before the car has warmed up. It blows cold air? Any ideas why?

After warmup it still blows cold, or only when cold? Normally the fan will operate independently of engine temp except in some climate controlled vehicles. As long as it blows warm air after engine is at temp that's a good thing. the heater uses hot water from the engine. Obviously the heater can't be warm before the engine is. If it's cold after the engine is hot, there are vacuum controlled "motors" on top of the heater box under the dash that move doors that control heat. Either one of the control motors or one of the doors have stuck or failed. Many also have a control valve on one of the heater hoses under the hood as well. If the engine comes up to temp then the thermostat is good (should be at about 210f) Only remaining item is the core itself which may be internally or externally obstructed.
All this being said, if it's good when the engine is up to temp, leave it alone...it's fine.

No heat in 97 mercury villager

your heater core may be getting blocked up, or the thermostat may be stuck open at times. you have a few options here, option 1 and 2 cost about the same, option 1: have the thermostat replaced just so you know its working properly, a 97 will most likely not have a telltale way of knowing if the thermostat is bad or going bad. option 2. have the cooling system flushed at a shop. this will try to clear out and debris in the cooling system that may be blocking passages or the heater core. option 3 is the most expensive. have the heater core replaced, the heater core is what provides heat to the hvac system in the dash. a few other things to check would be vacuum lines/actuator/temperature door on your hvac system.
