It won't do anything dosn't even try in any gear. Fluid is not over full. Dosn't smell burnt or look out of ordinary.

  • fritzbroeren May 15, 2009

I didn't notice the speedo. It makes no noise no ratchet sound.

It won't do anything? No Forward or Rev? You checked the fluid, Is it now reading overfull?

I have seen these strip the pump shaft splines out of the torque converter. Usually when this happens the trans will show about 1/2 quart overfull because the pump isn't turning. Do you get any noise when you shift or does the speedo move. Does it make a ratchet noise when you go back to park?

If you don't hear anything then the pump is bad or the converter is bad or the pump shaft is broke or stripped. The trans will have to be removed to fix it.

No it won't do anything. The car will start runs fine. The rrans for some reason will not shift into anything. When you try to put it in any gear it does nothing. The motor rpm"s dont change or anything. Where the shift cable connects to the trans is a relay box of some sort. A couple of guys have said that that box has probably went bad. I went to replace that, but can't get that box off. I'm getting ready to go talk to my mechanic would appreciate your input.

2003 Ford Taurus--about 1 week ago heard noise under hood but car continued to drive okay. Then, I went to go to work, it cranks fine but when I shift into a gear, car does not move. Looked at belt under...

You say transmission fluid levels are good. Is it a nice red or pink color or is it an orange, brown to black color. Does the vehicle actually shift into gear, the linkage from the gear shift from park to drive or reverse maybe be unhooked you can check that out also. Does the trans fluid smell burnt, should be kind of a sweet smell. Good Luck

Trans slips

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action I strongly suggest that you replace the automatic transmission fluid. If the fluid is burnt the transmission tends to slip, stuck in gear or shifts slowly. Once replaced, a smooth ride and shifting will be noticeable.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
